Poll question: What browser do you use?
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 10:57 AM by Catch22Dem
I use Opera most of the time. I noticed that my little Instant Message toolbar (see bottom right corner of this post...just above the poll) shows up great in Opera, but in IE, the images have the nasty border around them. No real way for me to fix that. So what do you use?

5. I will bet every dime I have
That the next version of IE will have tabbed browsing. Don't you think. All the big 3rd party browsers have it, and it's one of the big reasons so many people are using them. I can almost guarantee MSFT will take that idea.

7. Mozilla, though until I get my p/w e-mailed to me I'm forced to use
IE in my Windows emulation.

I hope I get it soon...

Konquerer won't display half the web sites I visit properly. A bit of a shame, I otherwise like it...

10. Here are the facts:
Microsoft's Internet Explorer is by far the most popular browser - but not because it's better. On the contrary, MS simply used its monopoly to essentially force its browser on millions of victims... er, consumers.

Many people regard a number of browsers as superior to IE. I believe the most popular of these are Mozilla and the related Firebird (which was recently replaced by an upgrade called Firefox).

As a web designer, I use a number of browsers, but my favorite is Mozilla/Firefox. I'm actively promoting it by encouraging visitors to my website to download Firefox. I'm also working on an anti-Microsoft site that will explain the many differences between open-source software and Microshaftware.

Seriously, there are many very simple things we can do to fight corruption, and one is to simply promote Mozilla. Download it and put in a good word on DU once in a while.

15. Thanks for the info
Tell me, why might I want to switch from Opera to Firefox? Is there a real motivation to change? I gotta be honest, I think the "mouse gestures" in Opera are the coolest!

17. There are mouse gestures in Firefox as well...
My only issue with Opera is that they have two versions, an ad-supported one, and one that you have to pay for.

Firefox is completely free and is a beautiful piece of software. Opera is a great piece of software (used it on a friends computer) but it's not free, nor is it open-source (at least I don't think it is). While I understand that open-source sogtware is not the answer for everything, I do believe it has its uses.

So yeah I've been using Firebird/Firefox since 0.5 and think it's great.

Of course the next version of IE will use ideas that are currently oout there, but by the time that release comes round, think of how much better other brwosers will be...:)

21. Safari is the best!
It is damn fast--a result of having been written in Apple's Cocoa object-oriented programming system. That also means it is Mac-only and will remain as such.

22. What happened to Netscape??
I use Netscape 7.1 for the Mac. It's fast, reliable (usualy), its tab function is smooth, and since I installed it I haven't had a single popup.

27. Links 2, because I'm strange and perverse
It's the fastest one I've found (well, Dillo is about the same speed), but the main good thing about it is you don't have to use the mouse - down-arrow selects the next link, up-arrow selects the previous link, right-arrow follows a link, left-arrow goes back. Unfortunately, it's got its own layout engine, and you can't cut and paste, and some characters are missing from its internal font (which you can't change). Very limited javascript support, and no plugins, but it suffices for most things. If I need to look at a java-heavy site, I fire up Mozilla Firebird (and then sit there drumming my fingers for what seems like an eternity while it starts).

</too much information>
