1. It definitely doesn't look like anything else
It has a very bizarre, kind of grotesque style done with scratchy ink lines and watercolor washes. The nostalgic look and black humor might remind you a little of Edward Gorey. There is almost no dialogue, just animation. If you are interested in animation, you will probably want to see it, because it is very unique and creative and completely different from the generic computer animated look so prevalent these days. If you liked City of Lost Children, you will probably enjoy Triplets of Bellville.

7. It Just Happens
City of Lost Children was my favorite 90s film. Thanks for making up my minds, I guess I'm off to the movies now :)

3. I liked it
but agree that it is not your typical animation feature. Nothing like a Disney film or even Japanese anime. It's not heavy on a story line, more of animation style. I would have to admit that I actually liked the "Destino" short that was shown before the "Triplets of Belleville" more.

Destino is a lost collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali.

My recommendation for a better animation film would be the Tokyo Godfathers. I really loved that. That's anime with English subtitles, but the story and animation quality are superb.

It is very bizarre but leaves you with a good feeling. The art is awe-inspiring, conveying a fantastic sense of grandeur.

.. owing a lot in style, humour and subject-matter to French comic books. I loved it, but it may not be everyone's verre de vin rouge.

6. Saw it on my birthday (Friday)
I really enjoyed it, though I wouldn't say it has universal appeal. Being at least 1/2 French probably made it more entertaining than it would have been were I another ethnicity. It is a very French movie, and all of the characters appear very French, and very grotesque.

There is no dialogue. The story tells itself.
