'other' cuz I have never watched any of them - not ever - not once!

I have watched 'queer eye for the straight guy' a couple of times. Is that a reality show?

11. Bzzt, wrong - that show ain't real
I saw a part of an episode where the Bear guy was pretending he had to fart by placing something up, you know, there. He lets go and makes the noise and then acts as if he's crapped his pants in the process, solely to freak out his so-called fiance. :eyes:

This is reality?! Hardly. It's some guy who doesn't look like mankind's idea of a dreamboat, paid $100k just to act obnoxious and gross. It is not real.

FOX, the usual faux bastion of morality, would probably show this guy's dick on camera if they had the opportunity, both flaccid and erect, and then have a Bill O'Reilly special a month later about the depravity and the state of media on our children... (oops, he did that a year ago... my oh my... FOX's hypocrisy is second to none, why can't the rest of the general public see the obvious?)

20. It's not reality because he's a really obnoxious guy
it's reality because the family genuinely hates him and thinks he's disgusting.

By your definition, reality TV is a non-existent genre because all people on reality TV are put in artificial situations.

8. bingo!, great answer!
I think it is embarrassing to us as a nation that the most popular television shows are these reality shows.

I wish the country would make at least an attempt to have a deep meaningful experience, to strive to learn in all facets of life.

But instead most watch reality tv.

14. It's not just this country
Reality TV is popular all over the globe. Big Brother, Survivor (and I'm sure others) originated overseas.

6. Other...I have to say...
None of the above. Even if it included all the shows. "Reality" programming is BS. Want reality? Show it live. Not edited or cut for bad language.

Until then it's still just a TV show.

9. "Reality" TV sucks.
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 10:19 AM by JonathanChance
Besides, If for some reason I wanted to see someone eat a rat in ritualistic self-degradaition, I'd drive down to the Tri-Beta house at Carrol College in Waukesha during rush week.

10. "Divorce Court"
Court shows seem to be the only non Jerry Springer/Maury/et al shows based on actual real-life reality.

"Reality" shows are not even REAL. Where did they get the name "reality" from anyway? Anybody can conjure up this crap, who needs to pay for writers and actors? (off-note: Even a mediocre one-note actor can make a funny role funny, so why half the cast of Friends gets $1 mil per episode... :eyes: )

Anyway, they hand pick people and hand pick situations. Seems a bit contrived to be real.

I any, "Average Joe" would be the closest... except Jerry Springer and "Divorce Court" are far more real.

12. The Amazing Race
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 10:26 AM by MaineDem
That's the only one I watch religiously. Heck, it's the only one I watch at all, except for some Survivor.

Interesting locales, reasonable "challenges", losers aren't voted off. The last place team is eliminated. I really enjoy that show.

Most of these shows are crap.

13. Oooh, Maine Dem, I agree!
I sure hope that there is a forthcoming series of Amazing Race.

Another show I really enjoy (is it a reality show?) is "Mythbusters".

This show makes me laugh more than any canned "comedy" show.

Not a reality show in the purest sense of the word, but definitly one of the few shows I highlight in my schedule.

22. Amazing Race is the best show.
It's about skill and intelligence, as well as physical abilities. It actually can make relationships stronger and it's set all over the world.

I also like Survivor, but it's really boring this season. The Apprentice appeals to my inner evil child.

23. The Amazing Race is my favorite.
I watch Survivor until I get too annoyed with having my favorites voted off, but the Amazing Race is really good. The Guidos, Flo, the virgins, it's just fascinating.
