FOX's latest contribution to high culture: "The Littlest Groom"
FOX SPECIAL:
"THE LITTLEST GROOM, PART 1"

DOES SIZE REALLY MATTER WHEN IT COMES TO TRUE LOVE ON THE ALL-NEW SPECIAL “THE LITTLEST GROOM” AIRING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16 ON FOX

Two-Part Special to Air Over Two-Nights on Monday, February 16 and Monday, February 23

Should your height determine whom you find attractive? Of course not! THE LITTLEST GROOM will venture where no other show has gone by helping a young man who is 4’5” tall to find true love. Initially believing he will choose among women of similar stature to his own, he later discovers, in a surprising twist, that some average-sized women will enter the picture. Will his ideal mate be a little person, or will she be of average height? His quest begins on Part 1 of THE LITTLEST GROOM airing Monday, Feb. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (SP-0455) (TV-PG D, L, S)

Host: Dani Behr (“Boy Meets Boy”)

Groom: “Glen”

Well. This is something. I have no idea what, but it certainly is something.

1. Reminds me of the movie "Gladiator"
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 11:04 PM by TennesseeWalker
Commodous (sp?), the New Emporer, to win the love of the people of Rome, brings back the Gladiator Games. Still remember the Roman Senator saying that the Emperor was playing to the "mob", and the other senator says, "The mob IS Rome".

Decadence.

3. My husband was downstairs when they ran the commercial; I heard
this enormous moan and "You've gotta be kidding."

And he wonders why I'd rather be on DU than watching TV!

4. Sadly... this is what we send to the world to represent American "culture?
Not that anything else we've put out lately is much better, but geez, what other group can we exploit? Coming up next, trying to find a mate for the morbidly obese bachelor/bachelorette? (probably already in the works).... Sheeesh.

5. It's been done--on Fox, natch.
It's called (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong) "My Big, Fat, Obnoxious Fiancee."

I kid not.

7. Indeed.
It's a sad excuse for American culture.

Coming up next, watch as we execute America's criminals--LIVE! :eyes:

20. We're pretty close to that already
This past week in my social studies class we've been studying pariliamentary procedure and we're having a mock assembly. The issue on the agenda on Friday was the death penalty. My friend Brandon was getting pretty tired of all the pro-CP people who kept making the SAME POINT over and over and over again, not responding to any of the antis arguments AT ALL. Finally, Brandon got sick of it and said we should amend the motion so that the death penalty be inforced in gladatorial arenas in MN.

Here's the thing: some of the pro- CPers didn't figure out he was kdding! The amendment nearly passed  It was pretty funny, though.

6. I saw an ad for this when I was watching "The Simpsons"
with a friend, tonight. We agreed that, even for reality TV, this was definitely a new low.:-(

24. It's just more of the same
Since reality shows are particularly inexpensive to produce, but this sure proves that they are running out of ideas. Who thought up the midget angle, anyway?!:eyes:

8. I missed this one BUT
coming in March......

http://www.tvbarn.com/ticker/archives/018670.html

One beautiful single woman. 14 sexy bachelors. A million-dollar prize. Think you know where this is going? Think again Ö things aren't exactly as they appear when FOX puts this young lady and the viewing audience to the test to determine which guys are straight and which guys might be just PLAYING IT STRAIGHT, premiering Friday, March 12 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

This one-hour unscripted series may have a twist, but the rules are simple: if a straight guy is the last man standing, the couple splits the money. However, if a gay guy fools his way to the finish line, he leaves $1 million richer. With serious cash up for grabs, first impressions have never been more important.

16. So they get Christopher Lowell to belch and scratch his nuts and he wins..
Yeah, I know that's stereotypical, but like the whole show isn't?

What do the straight guys who get eliminated because they "act" gay get? A book on "How to not be SO 'Metrosexual'..."?

11. I just saw a commercial for this tonight.
I couldn't believe it! But then when I realized that the station was Fox, I believed it. Is there anything that network won't do (besides tell the truth on their news shows)?

14. I'm disgusted on two levels
As a short person I am revolted by this sizist crap that stigmatizes those who don't meet society's idea of "normal" height.
Second, this marriage thing thing, isn't it supposed to be in some way, oh what's that word, SACRED?

It's easy as hell..

Star in a show.. no matter how degrading and if you got brains you're set for life..

That lil guy will probably not get a girlfriend or a bride, but he's gonna get money, book deal, commercials etc etc

and err I guess a bride after all that

18. This is disgusting.
I've seen the promos for this, and quite frankly it looks like "let's laugh at the little people" time. Fox is spinning this the same as "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancee". Just for laughs.

There's no level low enough that Fox can stoop to. I seriously expect Fox to come up with a show about two special people (or "mentally retarded" for callous people) getting married.

Fox has a "look at the freaks" mentality. It's shameful and obscene.

Terry

21. Rather like Jerry Springer...
He's done the same little people gag, mentally ill people, the retarded, and much more. Worse, the tone of Jerry's show is now so depraved and humiliating to all involved, what with he getting the people to strip nude on camera and having a female stripper doing it with a pole on the left side of the stage...

Springer is just as obscene as FOX. Trouble is, despite the tawdriness of the later seasons, there's something that's sadly genuine about Jerry's guests. FOX hires people to be disgusting just for the sake of entertainment. But that's rationalization, they're both vulgar.

It's all an act.

The difference is though.. that Springer doesn't pretend that his show is quality stuff.
