well Arod's a Yankee, BUT
On paper, the Yankees have some serous firepower in the batting order. You can expect alot of runs being put up by these guys!

HOWEVER, I still starting pithching a major problem. Whow will be the 4th and 5th starters/ Brown is great when he's healthy, but thre's no guarantees of a ful season with him, especially at his age. Vasquez was a great deal, but he's chaning leagues (Like Brown). Mussina is steady, but he's also geting up in years. And then.....then...oh boy :eyes:

I see this as the major challenge, can this collection of grea palyers come together as a team, AND be able to perform in the Brnox with a very ansty owner who's showing no signs of having any patience for anything short of another world title. And in all fairness, the Red Sox will be that much more motivated to beat the Yankees.

1. Yankees blow.
They're the money-sucking virus of baseball.

2. I must admit
that Arod should have jined the Yankees years ago, back in 2000 to be exact. Steinbrenner's on a mission, but there's no guarantees in baseball anymore.

3. The Yankees have destroyed baseball
It is a prime example of what happens when an industry is deregulated.

10. The Yankees did no such thing.
They're merely playing by the same insane rules every team, player and fan who still pays for tickets agrees to. They're simply the wealthiest players in the free-agent, ungodly salary market. Don't blame the Yankees for the demon all of baseball helped create.

4. Jose Contreras and Jon Leiber, #4 and #5
Contreras is the Cuban free agent from last year who did well as a spot starter. Leiber won 20 games with Cubs a few years ago and is coming back from Tommy John surgery. If Kevin Brown's healthy, starting pitching will be fine.

They've also shored up the bullpen with Tom Gordon and Paul Quantrill.

In short, the pitching won't suck. And the everyday lineup is sick with talent. More pain to come for Boston (but they're used to that).

5. A-Rod should have stayed with the Mariners
There are many reasons that would have been better all around.

I think this trade to the Yankees is over the top.

It leaves a very, very bad taste in my mouth. And I am a huge baseball fan.

6. an interesting (if unlikely) scenario . . . not A-Rod related, but . . .
the Yanks meet the Astros in the World Series and lose 4 games to 3 . . . Pettitte gets two of the Houston wins, and Clemens gets the other two . . . they share the MVP . . .

8. As a Sox fan...
...I sure would be happier if we had got him, but I would note that the Yanks gave up Soriano for him. If you compare their stats last year, A-Rod (in his MVP season) only had 9 more HRs, 14 more RBIs, and 6 more runs scored than Soriano, so it's not exactly like the Yankees are giving up a utility player for a superstar. Plus, A-Rod is a right-handed hitter who will be playing half his season in a park designed for left-handers, so it's possible that his numbers may dip a bit. (Of course, the "next big star" Soriano might turn out to be a bust, but we're basing it on what happened last year, and it's doubtful that A-Rod's offensive contributions will cause them to win many more games than they would have had with Soriano performing at last year's pace. Whether that will make up for the loss of Clemens, Pettitte, and Wells remains to be seen.)

11. Rodriguez is still a significant step up for New York
Bear in mind Rodriguez put up his numbers with very little protection in the batting order. He still killed the ball despite getting intentionally walked often and being thrown crap. Rodriguez also strikes out significantly less than Soriano, meaning he gets on base more. Rodriguez will probably be devastating as a Yankee.

9. They couldn't do it
against our Marlins who had a payroll about 1/4 of the B. Bombers. Sometimes money can win you championships. Other times, it is the will of the playes and coaches that can win you them.
