Can someone help me w/ an avatar problem

4. You need to upload it to DU's server first

Go to the "Options" menu, and click on "Change my preferences," then click on "upload" in the Avatar section.

5. I did that, and pasted what they told me, but all I see is a red X

6. There's some kind of corruption in your image

Did you select the correct file type when you uploaded? You might have to try recreating it and uploading it again.

10. I don't know what you're doing wrong then...

If you right-click on where the image should be, and select "View Image," it'll tell you there's some kind of corruption/formatting problem with your image. I suspect you're not saving it correctly or something... I dunno.

I've tried his picture and could use it as avatar (after uploading it myself) - this is definitely strange.

Then I typed the URL in the upload box and selected in "JPG" Box #2. Then it gave me a thing to type in the box (personal/134681.jpg) and I typed it it. It said it had been succsessful uploaded, but it shows a red X instead. :shrug:

Save the picture first on your Computer. Upload it from your harddisk, not from the Harvard server. I'm pretty sure that this is the problem.

resize the picture to be larger than 48x48; that should do it.

and resized it to 50x48.

I snagged it off CNN/SI's web site, resized to 48x48 and sharpened with IrfanView. Looks a lot clearer.



Note for sports people: CNN/SI's site seems to have some very nice logos. Very sharp resolution. If you resize through IrfanView, try enhancing the colors a little, especially contrast. This yields some pretty decent results.
