I am now a Foster Mom - to 4-legged furballs
The Cat Shelter that I volunteer for once a week has asked if I would be a foster mom to some cats who need a few days of loving away from the shelter.

I almost was going to bring home the prettiest 2 year old Gray tabby but at the last minute I found a woman looking for a cat (no kittens) and I set her up with Emmy (the tabby) and a love match.

But I'm still not sure if I want to adopt a second cat but I think Fostering cats would be fun!!!

1. Having a couple of cats is really no different than having just
one. except for the litter and the food and the love they require, but they give love too. However, I think fostering would be a wonderful thing to do too.

4. I'm not 100% sure if I want more than one
It'll give me an opportunity to see how Abbie mixes with other cats and yes, I would take a second cat in if the right one comes along.

Today I helped 6 cats find new homes. It was a good day for adoptions!!!

BTW, please patronize your local PetSmart. The one in Delaware provides us room for us and the local humane shelter to show off cats & kittens and help them find new homes. Plus for every cat we adopt, PetSmart donates another $5 to our shelter!!!

6. We don't have PetSmart in Victoria
I looked in Google to see where the closest one would be. But their locator page was down. The next time I go over the border though, I will bring back some pet stuff and I will buy it from PetSmart.

2. I could never foster...
I'd fall in love too quickly and then we'd have more than we've already got...

But I applaud your caring and consideration!

3. I foster kitty cats from the shelter too
I don't have any at the moment, but I do do it when they have an over-flow, which, sadly, is often.

You worded it right, they do need time away for loving, and calming. Sometimes I get a special needs baby that needs around the clock care. It is very rewarding, but sometimes it's hard to let them go, though.

Much respect to you for having such a wonderful and kind heart.

5. Fostering can be rough.
Especially if they bond and then have to be placed elsewhere.

My experience is that dumped housecats do best if they spend time in a cage. After that, they're just thrilled to be out. It seems mean but it really helps them to adjust to the new home.

Whatever, the rule is: whoever you can place, you place. there will always be another in need of the space.

Fostering kittens is a hoot, albeit all those feedings, and that difficult necessity of coaxing them to eliminate. (We had some children bring in a bloated, screaming kitten they'd been hiding in their closet. They knew about feeding but not the other part. My sister licked her finger and gave the right part a little rub and boooooooom! Most grateful kitten you ever saw. Then we gave her a bottle and she kicked and screamed while grabbing it. We named her Frenzy.)

7. I would only keep the cat for a few days
so hopefully it won't be too traumatic.

It seems we adopt our cats & kittens as quickly as they come in; however, there are plenty more at the local sanctuary that still need homes.

They have a poster on the way about Spay & Neutering and found that a pair of cats can produce over a million offspring in just over a decade (being that their offspring would have offspring and so on and so forth).
