The storm was worse than we thought - how are the DFW DUers this morning?
Went out this morning to assess the damage. Our fence had a board broken off and part of the fence is swinging wide open. The gate also broke and is swinging open. Our metal patio umbrella bent over and snapped off, with half of it blowing across the yard and shearing a branch off one of our crepe myrtles. Additionally, a number of shingles blew off our roof. The neighbors across the street lost shingles clear down to the wood structure - YIKES!

We're lucky in that we didn't lose our house entirely - I can't imagine how hurricane and tornado victims who lose everything must feel.

I need to clean the house today in preparation for Bullwinkle925's visit, but I guess I'll be spending the day getting estimates and calling the insurance company.

1. We got slammed in Jacksboro, too
but not as bad as it sounds like you got hit. I think mostly we just lost some newly planted vegetables. I doubt the baby tomatos could have survived last night. I didnt have time to check before I left for work this morning, but I will find out when I got home.

2. I hope they survived - maybe they're more resilient than you think
I noticed one of our rose bushes in the front of the house is leaning way over (the first rose just bloomed yesterday and WAS beautiful), but the one on the side of the house is fine. Additionally, we have a little tree next to the house that keeps blowing over despite our best efforts to stake it down - after we restaked it last Friday, it blew over again.

3. We found two baby jackrabbits in the orchard this weekend
I am going out looking for them this afternoon, too !! They seem to survive the storms pretty well, but the two from this weekend were newborns. They are born with their eyes open and not in nests, they can hop around from birth so hopefully they found shelter.

4. Oh, I hope you find them!
It's amazing that our bird feeder poles were not knocked over - everything else was! The birds were singing this morning and hovering around looking for their food, so I rehung the feeders and put some more seed out for them.

5. Haven't found them yet
but that is good news. I know that the drowned bodies are easier to find than the live babies hiding in wait for their mothers (don't ask me how I know that).

I covered the orchard 10 times over, and no sign, I have trouble seeing the babies sometimes because they blend in so well. I did see the mothers footprints and tried to follow them , but they would disappear when they got to higher ground. I think this is a very good sign.

Pictures I took this weekend:

The youngest babies I have ever come across.

I do hope they hopped to safety.
