Dang ferrets!

Returning from a Valentine's Day party, and a little tipsy, I placed my purse on the floor instead of hanging it out of the reach of the ferrets. What a mistake to make.

Sometime during the night, they removed my camera and hid it. Usually they steal smaller things, like my cell phone, the remote control, my wallet ($300 was missing for 2 years until recently!) -- but this is a new one. I simply can't comprehend how they did it, as it is large and heavy and is not easily grasped. I've been poking into holes with a stick all afternoon, to no avail.

Dang ferrets.

4. Alas, fewer

I had a good friend who ran a ferret shelter, who had back surgery, and being unable to continue his work, asked me to take his sick and unadoptable ferrets. I knew what I was getting myself into, and it has been hard seeing them die off to diseases like adrenal atrophy, conjestive heart failure, and cancers.

I'm now down to 6, and one of these is not doing so well (insulanoma).

The survivors: Misha Minkoff, Abelard, Vivvy, Noodles, Toots and Hannibelle (who is a reformed biter).

I love ferrets. They are charming and loving animals, but I am finding what I was told years ago to be true -- the farms that raise them seem to be the source of these horrific health problems.

I have mostly just one shoe of pairs. Where are they? I've been forced to give up my jewelry. There are a few "hidey holes" that I have not been able to find for YEARS! Now I know how Hans Blix feels. (But at least I am looking for something that is really there, somewhere.) I no longer have garbage cans -- I have to tie it from hooks in the ceiling, the way you have to do with your picnic food in Yellowstone Park!

How the HELL did they steal my camera? I mean, they are FERRETS, not African swallows with a line between them! I simply do not comprehend how they could have gotten it out, except by persistently pushing it. You can't beat them for ruthless determination!

It is behind a couch.

My best friend's ferret would take off with his shoes..HUGE..and then try to hide them but he couldn't get them into his stash places and could barely HAUL them but always found a way....great animals!
