Had a snack a little while ago. Sardines and crackers. I cannot eat Sardines without thinking of Lt. Edwards and Chief Moore and Paul Wells and John Frey and Korea summer of 1952.
And then I think of the times we took the "Destructor Boat" into Wonsan Harbour looking for sea mines. The cooks on the LSD mothership packed lunches for us. Sardines and crackers and apples. Always the apples.
Chief Moore has left us. The rest of the crew are still around. We communicate now and then. We know where each of us lives. And so it is too that I keep in touch with dozens of old friends from the military.
