What is the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 08:04 AM by bertha katzenengel
The faces of my niece and nephews, every time I've ever seen them, whenever I will see them in the future. They are my heart. Their ages are 23, 20 and 17, but age doesn't matter. They're beautiful.

my youngest nephew in 2005

You?

1. My folks... still hugging after 62 years of being together
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 08:06 AM by MissMillie
they'll celebrate 58 years of marriage this year, and they knew each other for 4 years before that.

I had dinner w/ them this Sunday, and right in the middle of prepping the meal, my mom just turned around and gave my dad a big hug.

It brought tears to my eyes. Few people are so lucky to have this sort of longevity with love. I'm immensely jealous that my mom and dad met their soul mates when they were 12 and 15, respectively.

I'm very lucky to have been brought up in such love, and to know the security of having parents who truly love each other and would do anything for one another.

6. 3 Things
My new born son when the nurse handed him to me.

Moon rise over Mt Isolation

And this:

The reason for it's beauty is the story behind it, that is my son at the end of a long hike that included two 4K peaks and he trooped through it with good cheer and enthusiasm even with ill fitting boots that were causing him considerable pain towards the end of the day.

7. The sun breaking through a rain drenched canopy of moss-
covered trees in Washington's Olympic National Park as my wife and I were hiking was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. It was a fleeting moment of beauty that I can't really describe except to say that the 30 seconds or so when the sun bathed everything in a strange golden glow seemed to last for several hours. You could see, hear and smell the forest gasp with delight to receive the rare gift of intense sunlight and just as the moment reached its brightest point, an elk bugled from a thicket about 100 yards in front of me. I get chills thinking about that moment even to this day, 14 years later.

13. Snow in the desert just outside of Tucson.
It was in Dec '90 and we were walking in the desert. It was very quiet and very cold. Small snowflakes started falling. Seeing the giant saguaro cactus with a dusting of snow is a site not soon forgotten.

23. My husband took me up onto the hills in the Presidio
late at night several years ago. The San Francisco Bay was spread out in front of us as far as the eye could see. I'll never forget the silence, the moonlight gleaming off the water, and did I mention the silence?

It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Second is Kauai.

29. I was going to say Kauai, as well (the Napali Coast in particular)
and, also, I used to have an apartment that had a sweeping view of San Francisco Bay. It was simply breathtaking. The rent was cheap back then, too, Lol. I never got tired of staring out the window at the sunlight, the water, fog, the bridges, the Berkeley Hills, etc. etc.

And, personally, the faces of my son and daughter ... :loveya:

28. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

30. One winter morning in the Berkshires...
There had been an ice storm the night before and I was having a hard time driving on a back road. All of a sudden, the sun came out and made the trees light up like diamonds. It was so striking, I was overwhelmed and pulled over. I sat there in awe for a long time.

31. My baby boy (who is now 19)
The day he was born and I could only hold him for a little while until he was taken away to be air-lifted to another hospital for emergency surgery. I wasn't able to hold him (really hold him) for another month. I remember when he was a baby just sitting in our rocking chair for hours rocking and starting at him. *sigh* I love him so much. Thanks for reminding me bk!
