HELP!!!
Looking for advice.
I am looking for a new position teaching. I have done a screening interview with a great district and they have told me that I won't find anything out until late April/May time. But the problem is I need to turn in my contract with my current district on the 13th of April!
I don't want to sign in the hopes of finding something better! But I don't want to NOT sign in the tragedy that I don't get a job!!
What do I do???
To sign or not to sign?
That is the question.

2. Don't sign...
You can earn extra money by freelance tutoring and substitute teaching until you find a position you're happy with.

3. A major mistake of job hunters...
is forgetting that they are an equal partner in the job search process.

Tell your potential employer you need a decision by the 12th or you will have to sign your contract, at which point you become unavailable for a year. If they were planning on offering you a position, they're not going to let you walk away; they need and want to hire the best candidates available. If they're that inflexible, you don't want to work there.

At the same time, talk to your current employer, tell them that you're considering not signing because you have other balls in the air. They probably won't give you an extension, but they might offer a larger signing bonus or fringe benefits to sign. They need and want to keep their best teachers. It looks bad if their best teachers constantly jump ship to other districts or private schools.
