1. I don't see a problem with the kid's haircut at all.
Then again, my six year old has sported a mohawk for most of the past year. And it's usually some blinding shade, as well.

2. what's wrong with the kid's hair?
I could see it being a novelty the first few days, but the other kids will get used to it.

Some people need to relax :eyes:

4. It's not just little kids they're doing it to.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/derbyshire/6274254.stm

And I read an article recently about a couple of teenagers in Texas, if I recall correctly, being threatened with expulsion because their hair was too long.

Seriously, if you're willing to screw up some young adult's entire school career because of their HAIR then you have some serious issues.

7. I don't think 'petty' even begins to describe it.
And in the case of the too-long hair in Texas, this kid had good grades and was in his senior year, and they were threatening to expell him and send him to the local school that was basically the remedial school for all the dregs in the area who got expelled from regular school. Just because his hair was too long.

In any sane state that would be illegal, but apparently such things have been upheld by the courts there in the past.

And in the case of the article there... it's just a big fat WTF. They banned shaved heads because of fears of skinheads. Somehow I HIGHLY doubt this black kid's a skinhead. Just a sneaky suspicion on my part, really. I don't have any proof.

9. dregs in the area?
I dont really think thats fair.. if its a local school and full of "dregs" as you call them, there might be a problem with funding and letting these children fall through the cracks.. I thought we were supposed to be progressive here.. The opening of your post reminds me of the Rush Limbaugh show.

12. If you somehow read Rush Limbaugh out of what I wrote, then you need to read it again.

Of course there's a problem. That's exactly my point. The whole area is obviously screwed up enough that kids are falling through the cracks often enough to necessitate an entire school being dedicated to the kids who got kicked out of regular schools for whatever reasons, be they petty and stupid like that one or serious ones involving crimes.

I went through a school system that literally had no place for me. I know what it's like. If I didn't have damn good parents I probably never would have even graduated high school.

I was debating whether to put the word dregs in quotations, but I thought what with this being a progressive site, people wouldn't just assume I'm using the word the same way the fat rich white men on the radio do. Apparently I was wrong.

13. I read it a few times...
And what you were saying was pretty harsh.. You compared the entire population of a school to the "dregs" of the earth.. If that isn't Limbaugh-esque, then I dont know what is..

Perhaps you misspoke and need to refine your statements to represent what you mean and not what they sound like.

15. No, I think you already decided a strict definition of the word dregs
based on your preconceptions. I said no such thing.

I'm talking about the fringe. The people who can't fit into their petty fascist little system for whatever reason.

You're talking about something completely different.

You don't get to twist my words. I explained exactly what I meant. And if that's not good enough for you, that's YOUR problem. Not mine.

I may have spoken a little hastily and not made myself clear, but I clarified afterwards when you misunderstood the first time.

10. If she checked on school regs and the school had no formal regs for those grades,
then I'd say there's no case. Maybe the school should make regs for those grades.

Maybe some Druids were offended......

Perhaps this marks the boy as a Human Sacrifice

Maybe this is just a whole bunch of nonsense started up by someone that wants Britannia to Rule Again

low level officials need to stop officiating so much I think......

relax... I am only kidding...

NO need to alert.....

Anyway, this is ridiculous. I hope the kid gets into an even better school because of this, one that will let him express his creativity and individualism while also challenging him academically.
