2. Shaman
I don't know if it's manufactured by any company other than this one, called "Airs." I've never found a similar fragrance under any name. How to describe it? . . . it's dark, sharp, uh . . .

12. Favorite incense scent is anything far, far away from me
Incense makes my throat close up and impairs my breathing. Can't be anywhere around it for very long.

18. Yeah, but you went to Smoky Mary's once!
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 12:16 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Good thing it was Good Friday, so it was only incense left over from Maundy Thursday.

By the way - that cool, wonderful, elegant little place we went to for a drink before the service - it's now an APPLEBEE'S!

ARGH!!!! Times Square is becoming less and less New York, and more and more corporate Dorito and pepsi-swilling lowest common denominator America.

34. Applebee's????????
The horror!

Smoky Mary's was great, but so cavernous as to dissipate any incense remnant from the day before.

I'll never forget shopping in one of the "womyn's bookstores" on State Street in Madison. They were burning incense, and, as usual, I couldn't breathe. I said to the cashier (the only employee working at the time), "You know, you would have a fit if someone lit up a cigarette in here. That incense you're burning is far more problematic for me than cigarette smoke."

The young womyn said, "yeah, whatever, bye."

Oh well.

35. I railed at it when I passed it a few days ago
When we were at Smoky Mary's for the Beethoven Ninth concert. As we went up to the 50th street station (nice to walk a while after a concert, and no go straight to the train), of course that's right where the old good restaurant/new Applebee's america-detroying restaurant is.

And I railed. I, in fact, raged against the machine! All the way down the stairs, and onto the platform, I railed against it. I also included a rail againt the Olve Gardens that is at the apex of Times Square. And also tossed in McDonald's, Burger King, and some others while I was doing it.

And while all these chain restaurants suck, there's something truly, truly, majestically appalling about an Applebee's being in Times Square.

And sad thing is, that's the SECOND one of those abominations in Tiems Square.

People, why o why o whydo you come to NYC, and then insist on going to your old staid, boring, grotesque restaurants?

"No, dear, I don't want to go to Little Italy and explore the 200 authentic Italian restaurants run by actual Italians, nor explore their shops, or have any interest in that culture - they might make their food in weird ways. I'll stick with the Italian breadsticks and spaghetti they serve at Olive Gardens, a KNOWN Italian restaurant."

I also like L'Occitane's honey incense - but it can be somewhat overwhelming, so I always open a window when I burn it.

31. I just bought these Kama Sutra ones
Unfortunately, they've been used more for their usual purpose in my house of covering up the oder of my youngest's poopy diapers than anything too romantic. Actually, there's a head shop in my town that I use only for purposes of incense and really cool beaded hemp necklaces. I like a peach or jasmine scent, but everything really is of excellent quality, so it's hard to choose.
