2. Not the first time I've seen that SN in conjunction with trollage.
Something tells me that troll will need a new bridge to lurk under pretty soon.

3. It's how you can tell what they're most afraid of.
Their essential weakness is why they lose.

5. I didn't see this until just now but
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 08:14 AM by hippywife
every morning my husband and I have this ritual of whining, "I don't wanna go!" when it's time to get ready for work.

NPR's Story Corps Project talked to two of the men who were garbage men from that time. After listening to them, I will NEVER, EVER again piss and moan about having to get up and go to work.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89361277

Even though you can read the transcript, it's very edited and lacks the emotion of their voices. Please actually listen to it.

13. Being a 'slinger' on the back of a garbage truck was the toughest job I ever had
I lasted three weeks on the back of a garbage truck when I was 19. It was a hot Atlanta summer, temps averaging about 98 degrees, and 98% humidity. As a probationary employee, I was paid a flat rate of $45 per day for 15 hours of grueling work. We made about 1200 stops a day, sometimes more. The sadistic driver would gun the engine as you put the containers back on the curb, so you had to run to catch up and jump to get back on the truck. The driver would race down streets so fast that once, on a long curve, one whole side of the truck came up off the ground - with me hanging on the back for dear life at 50 mph. I weighed 140 lbs. soaking wet, and the containers we lifted were often close to 100 lbs. My reward for struggling to get that container up to the lip of the truck was a gush of skag juice - hot liquid runoff from the garbage - all over me. We reeked so bad, no one would get near us. Back at home, I'd be so exhausted, I didn't even have the energy to shower before bed. Then back up at 4:00 am the next day to do it all over again.

I'd sooner work on a crab boat in Alaska than do that shit again. It was the epitome of suckitude. I wouldn't wish it on a dog.

6. First, let me make it perfectly clear that I think that poster
was appropriately banned.

Second let me make it perfectly clear that I think Randi Rhodes was appropriately suspended.

Third, it's always so interesting to read comments like "you don't have the right to post that racist shit" in one thread while reading thread after thread (after thread) defending Randi's comments as the inalienable right of "free speech".

Just sayin'.

7. good points
People think "hate speech" only comes from people they disagree with. Not so. If Randi's comments had come from someone like Rush Limbaugh, not one person would be screaming about unfair suspension.

8. many people misunderstand the meaning of 'free speach'. there's no such thing.
in this country, or just about anywhere in the world, you can't just say anything you want without repercussions.

10. Yes, 'Free Speech' does not mean
that you can say anything without consequences like losing your job or the respect of the community.

FS does mean that you won't be prosecuted or thrown in jail, or perhaps even condemned to death for criticizing the government.
