Although beer is becoming a nice way of dealing with the withdrawal symptoms...;)

1. Congratulations
Did you go cold turkey? Patches? I'm going to try to quit - again. With bush in office I'm just glad I'm not eating them.

:pat on back: ;) WTG!

7. Cold turkey.
All in all, I feel fine -- it's more about ending a habit like any other than it is about withdrawal symptoms, really.

Nice to wake up in the morning without the tobacco resin from my throat in my mouth.

3. the hard part is over..
congratulations!

Believe it or not, after 72 hours, your PHYSICAL withdrawal symptoms end...all of the nicotine is completely purged from your body after 3-4 days max. It's all psychological from here on out...Don't be tempted...and keep one of those "world's finest chocolate" fundraiser bars in your pocket for emergencies...They always have a way of taking your mind off smoke.

just remember...

You were BREATHING FU*KING S-M-O-K-E!!!
that should be enough to make anyone stay away from the cancer sticks..

10. Well... yeah... that's why it's called "smoking"
The "breathing smoke" part wasn't a tobacco company secret they kept from smokers.

8. Drinking made nicotine fits worse when I tried quitting
I rarely drink anymore. Still smokin', though.

Glad it works for you.

11. I was joking
I'll have 2 or 3 beers one night maybe twice a week if I'm in the mood -- I'm not actually using it as nicotine therapy.

13. Stay tough... use the money to pay off your credit cards!
If you're smart/fortunate enough not to have credit card debt, enjoy the extra $50+ a month.

Way to go!

Great job, it sounds like it is all in your attitude towards it. Remember, a craving is supposed to last all of 3 minutes. At this point, just get past those 3 minutes, and you are good to go. Now, if you can just kick that glue sniffing habit, you would be set...Kevin.

18. Patpatpatpatpat!
I quit in August 2001 after smoking for nearly 40 years! Haven't had a cigarette since then, and I never thought I could do it, but if I can, you can! I love having the extra money I used to spend on cigs, and I like not worrying about whether I am in a non-smoking restaurant, and I like not having to stand outside in the cold or rain just because I need a nicotine fix. Hang in there!

20. i quite a year ago
Nice work. I quite a year ago and today i feel like a new man.

The year was kind of tough though. Some emotional up and down and feeling displaced. It all goes away though. it goes away completely. Just be careful about your caffeine levels. dont keep your current levels. drop them some.

21. Good for you, Paragon - you're over the hump!
I did the same - cold turkey after 35 years - 3 years ago. After 3-4 days, it's all in your head, with physical addiction gone. It IS wonderful to wake up without that heavy anvil on your chest, tasting everything again, rarely coughing, clothes and house coming clean & fresh, saving $100/month. I'm proud of you, bud!

.
.

Yah, I'm a smoker, down to just around 3/4 pack

Oh

thought I'd let you see what us Canuks hafto put up with on our Cig packs

These are the "nicer" warnings that cover 1/2 of each side of our cigarette packs

Maybe I shouldn't joke about it,
but my last gurlfriend said that "I must not be smokin' enuf !!
(in reference to the second pic)

If you want to see some of the more gruesome stuff they are putting on our cigarettes, clik on either one of the above pix.

That will take you to the thumbnail page of the warnings at Health Canada

Hang in there

Just think of all the $$$ you are saving !!!

24. Cigarettes Are Sublime
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 01:07 AM by LiviaOlivia
Page 12 paragraph 2
<snip>

"like other tyrants such as Louis XIV, Napoleon, and Hitler, James I
despised smoking and demonized tobacco. The relation between tyranny
and the repression of the right to grow, sell, use or smoke tobacco
can be seen most clearly in the way movements of liberation, revolutions
both political and cultural, have always placed those rights at
the center of their political demands."

<snip>

"Napoleon, like Louis XIV and Hitler, was violently, personally disgusted by smoking. Hitler was a fanatically
superstitious hater of tobacco smoke; he is known to have granted Mussolini the only exception to his refusal to permit it in his presence. Signs everywhere in the Third Reich, and throughout the war, proclaimed:"Deutschen Weiben rauchen nicht"(German women do not smoke); yet, in fact, the opposite was massively true. There is nowhere in the world where people do not smoke.."

<snip>

"Cigarettes Are Sublime" by Richard Klein

Never quit for anyone but yourself. It is political.
