Great conversation at the UPS Store today!
I went to mail something today and walked into my local UPS shop around the corner. I happened to walk in on a conversation re: bush and republicans and how they are destroying this country.

Of course I chimed in and we got in a very spirited, energized conversation about getting monkey boy out of office - people hate him!
Others came into the shop and we didn't let up - including the proprietor! We just kept expressing ourselves freely, not caring what anyone thought.

Turns out, the people who walked in were English - they looked like fairly well to do business men and they joined in as well! They weren't quite as opinionated as we were, but they were definitely on our side! One guy does some web stuff making fun of Bush and Cheney that I have seen on DU. It was great - so energizing and restored my faith that maybe we do have a chance!

I live in NYC, but only recently have I been hearing blatant Shrub bashing in public - mostly on the streets, but I say keep it coming!

1. Cool!!
I remember a couple of years ago, post-9-11, when you felt you had to whisper about such matters.

2.  woah, strangers talking to each other?
about polotics nonetheless? i live in a small town where everyone knows at least half the town so its pretty easy to just start a conversation on a street, but if people are doin this with strangers... there must be some real outrage there.

5. Yes, not just outrage, but energy....
not just that "this sucks, but what can you do" it was much more proactive, like "we have to get this guy out of office no matter what".

My heart started beating faster, I was so pumped when i walked out of there! There was a real feeling of solidarity and we all thought that maybe, just maybe the democratic party would pull together over this!

3. It's great to be free again
This is a sign that everyone is starting to wake up and realize that we are the majority.

I have been bad-mouthing Bush the whole time, and I too find that more and more people are joining in.

We are reversing the spiral of silence!

9. The other day
a neighbor told me she had switched her life long registry from Reptile to DEm :bounce: Then I overheard a guy in a store say to two friends that if * wins he is going to leave the country. I chimed in that I'd go with. His friends and I carried on a really good * bashing session for over 20 minutes. This week we had over 80 people at our Democratic party meeting....this has never happened before in conservative eastern Oregon.:bounce: :bounce: We are winning!!!!

10. I was just listening to 770 in NY
I know, I am a masochist. Anyway, one of these right wingers was going off on how there is no money left. The reelection of Bushco is not a certainty and that sort of thing. He said the pukes want to privatize social security but it will cost $1 trillion to do. These guys are in big trouble and I am scared everyone will be affected.

"I know, I am a masochist. Anyway, one of these right wingers was going off on how there is no money left."

When I hear the Repubs going on and on over not getting enough money from the budget for their roads, etc. I want to hit them aside the head. They voted for the tax cuts, allowed corporations not to pay taxes, the rich to go off-shore with their money, believed this lying President about WMD, etc.

This money is not being reinvested in our country. War is expensive...especially with so much fraud and corruption. Whose fooling who?

Not fooling many Democrats...and some Republicans!!!

We won the election in 2000. Will they use computers and the media to steal it in 2004. Call in the UN!!!

11. NYers coming out of the cloud?
I think, NYers had a lot to think about since 9/11. They are probably just now coming out of the dust cloud to see what is going on.

I know one thing...when they do they will be very angry. Repubs are outta there!!

17. Having the convention in NY was a bad idea for the pukes.
People here are openly hostile. I think it will be a very bad convention for them. People have to talk to people here. They are nuts right now about getting rid of Bush.

16. The difference in the level of discourse at our Super Bowl party
form last year (let alone two years ago) was drastic. 7 people: two CPA's, a bonafide NASCAR dad (no kids), a utility worker (listens to talk radio), a public employee, a fortune 500 employee, and a real estate appraiser. Everyone is pretty "normal", I am the most out there politically.

We actually were talking about the merits of the Dem candidates (I just let them talk I didn't want to end the conversation-any advertising is good advertising) and they all had at least serious quesitons about W and the crowd in charge. They all saw them as a pretty radical bunch.

Two years ago there was no way you could say anything even approaching critical of W. Last year there was some wiggle room. This year they all knew how I felt about W and what I had told them about the war (thanks DU) and how almost all of it had come true. One friend took me aside and said that he couldn't believe that no WMD's had been found and that even with reservations I had said that it didn't make any sense that any were there and not near the level W made it sound like.

If these people have the least bit of doubt W is in REAL trouble.
