ARGH! Yankees talking A-Rod/Soriano deal
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 04:19 PM by mouse7
Yankees in Talks for Alex Rodriguez
By RONALD BLUM, AP Sports Writer

NEW YORK - Now it's the New York Yankees (news) who are trying to trade for Alex Rodriguez. The American League (news) champions began preliminary discussions with the Texas Rangers (news) this week on a deal that would bring A-Rod to the Bronx for second baseman Alfonso Soriano, a high-ranking baseball official said Saturday.

While the talks began Wednesday night, it's still too early to tell whether they will lead to a deal, the official said, speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. Rodriguez has a no-trade clause but has said he would be amenable to a deal to the Yankees, the official said.

Rodriguez, the AL MVP, would be moved from shortstop to third base by New York, seeking to fill the hole created when Aaron Boone hurt a knee last month in a pickup basketball game, an injury that will require surgery. Derek Jeter, the Yankees' captain, would remain at shortstop...."

#%@%$@ YANKEES! Geez, do they have to buy all the players?

Also note that only the Yankees could both buy all the players AND screw up every single fantasy sports league in America in a single trade.

2. won't happen . . .
Steinbrenner spends a lot of money, but A-Rod's in a league of his own . . . besides, the Yanks don't need him . . .

6. (Sigh)
Baseball is such a "healthy" sport.

The Yankee payroll will now be over 200 million dollars. With the luxury tax and revenue sharing they're going to be paying over a quarter of a billion dollars THIS YEAR.

That's more than most other franchises are worth. Staggering.

How can Yankee fans enjoy being Yankee fans... I've never understood that?

9. The Sox have been spending and building a giant and Georgie is scared.
With the addition of Schilling, Burks and a couple other decent free agents the Red Sox are looking mighty mean and Steinbrenner is getting worried.
He'll get A-Rod but it seems to me that the guy (A Rod),never plays on championship teams. In fact his teams were always close to the bottom. Let him have him! The Sox pitching is going to mow people down this season.

10. Not so
In his final season with the Mariners Rodriguez lead them to the ALCS.

He was in the playoffs twice with Seattle IIRC.
The losing started in Texas.

11. The Yankees are idiots. Jeter can't play shortstop for crap...
...and Rodriguez is the best defensive shortstop who can actually HIT, as well, in the game.

So they move A-Rod to third?

Fuckin' morans.

12. It would be criminal to move Rodriguez to third
He's got hands as soft as an angel's butt and more range than an antelope. Apart from that, I hate it, but the lords of baseball don't give a shit what I think.

13. nooooooooooooo
Soriano rocks my socks off. No way they should trade him for A-rod. A-rod will probably ask for a salary the size of our defecit.

16. A Rod to third?
A Rod is better defensively than Jeter. More range with fewer errors. Jeter gets saved a lot by his arm but doesn't make nearly as many plays. Jeter should move to second.

ARod is in control of this and may not go if a position switch is in the mix.

18. eating my words (munch, munch, munch) . . .
NYC media is indeed reporting that this is a done deal . . . and that A-Rod has agreed to play third . . . I've been a Yankee fan since about '96 . . . loved how they played the game in those days, with people like Paul O'Neill and Scott Brosius . . . but this REALLY seems to be overkill . . . I mean, does Steinbrenner want EVERY good player in the league? . . . I may just have to go back to being a Red Sox fan (lived in MA for 15 years), since they'll now be the decided underdogs . . . I like underdogs, and I have a lot of friends in New England who deserve to see the Sox win it all before they die . . .

gonna have to think on this one . . .
