What caused my airbags to deploy?
I took my car to the carwash and while I was waiting for it, they came to get me and tell me that when the guy started to drive it onto the ramp (the kind that drags it through the automated wash,) both airbags deployed! My car is pretty low to the ground (it's a 2001 Saleen Mustang convertible) but I've tapped curbs, speed bumps, etc. before and nothing like this has happened.

The manager taped the bag into a big ball into the middle of my steering wheel so that it is still driveable. The other bag is hanging down over the glove box. I'm going to file a claim with the carwash's insurance company.

Has anyone heard of this happening without some impact?

I'm leaving in a few minutes to go teach a class but thanks for any comments or advice! :hi:

1. Could be that the guy sparked one up while in your car.

2. Have a GOOD look at your front end.
From what I understand, the only thing that should set off airbags like that is a frontal or almost frontal impact of 8 or 9 mph. That, or a bad sensor/trigger. But, if you didn't see it, best to double check the front.

3. We just checked and couldn't see anything
but it isn't easy to see under it, since it's so low to the ground. Thanks!

4. I suppose it COULD be a faulty sensor, but I'm betting collision.
I would have the thing looked at by a dealer. (I'm guessing you still can take it in to a Ford dealer.) They can tell you if the sensor is faulty or if they worked properly. I know that Saleen puts on body kits, but the sensors shouldn't be affected. But, you never know.

5. That's what I plan to do.
It's amazing how much it tore up the steering wheel and the dashboard! The instrument panel, radio, etc., weren't affected, thank goodness!

Proof that life goes on, huh? :) Thanks! :hi:
