Religious hypocrites. Venting.
I've got one hell of a doozy operating in my general midst, lately.
It's so unbelievably disgusting and irritating, especially when you have to sit back and watch their actions ruin the lives of others, and you absolutely can't intervene.

I know there are plenty of good, genuine people who actually try to live in a way that legitimately represents their beliefs, but after the last couple weeks of dealing with the fallout from this "Conservative Christian" person's deceitful, horrendous behavior, I'm so damn glad to be an Atheist.

1. Amazing how those who are the most fervent CC's are often
the most treacherous and untrustworthy people you will meet.

5. I can respect a person even if I disagree with them,
but I sure as hell don't respect someone who condemns the actions of others, while running around doing things that no religion on earth would condone.

7. I'm a teacher, and (in general) the meanest, least empathetic students
are the religious ones. I don't blame the students; I blame the self-justification instincts of the parents.

8. Ugh!
I remember being at one of my son's baseball games when a boy (whose father always lead a pre-game prayer session with some of the players,) kept shouting at other players and calling them "faggots."

I yelled at him and told him to shut his nasty little mouth (plenty loud enough so his father could hear what I thought of his son's language.) It was disgusting.

in fact, Jesus was a pretty good guy even after the Romans vented him.

These are the words of Rev. Hagee, who publicly endorsed McCain last week:

• All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are -- were recipients of the judgment of God for that. The newspaper carried the story in our local area that was not carried nationally that there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came. And the promise of that parade was that it was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other Gay Pride parades. So I believe that the judgment of God is a very real thing. I know that there are people who demur from that, but I believe that the Bible teaches that when you violate the law of God, that God brings punishment sometimes before the day of judgment. And I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.
• "Most readers will be shocked by the clear record of history linking Adolf Hitler and the Roman Catholic Church in a conspiracy to exterminate the Jews."
• Do you know the difference between a woman with PMS and a snarling Doberman pinscher? The answer is lipstick. Do you know the difference between a terrorist and a woman with PMS? You can negotiate with a terrorist.
• Well, Islam in general, those who live by the Quran have a scriptural mandate to kill Christians and Jews.

on edit, check this out for a lighter take on the believer/non-believer rift:

20. LaraMN...Let me tell you this short story >>>
I'm a Tech...Go to people homes etc...

One Saturday, I had 6 customers ...One Guy tried to "save" me the whole time I was changing his computer's motherboard...preach, preach, preach....

Just happened that day, everybody paid me in personal checks...
I got home ...did laundry...forgot about checks in shirt pocket...Washed all the checks..Arrrgg!!

Called up my customers...All but one said (something like) "Oh no...Just come by and I'll write you another one"

EXCEPT the "Preacher"

Called him up...explained what happened...He says "Not my problem, pal" ...Click!! (Hangs up on me).

Left a real nasty taste in my mouth. :(

incident turned out to be his little "get out of jail free" card! Probably popped the cork on a bottle of the world's cheapest champagne after hanging up on you!

23. OMG
For awhile I was a clerk in a department store. I always attracted loons like a magnet. I was prayed at, preached at, and one time a young woman with a water bottle "baptized" me. No, she didn't pour the water on my head--she poured it into her hand and flicked it at my face. Without losing my composure, I said "Thank you for shopping at _______. Please come again".

It was a lunchroom story for weeks.

My rather close-knit circle of friends is still dealing with the fallout from a good little homeschool fundie Christian "friend" stabbing us all in the back. And she seriously justified her treachery by saying we deserved it because we're all Pagans and were therefore casting evil spells against her.

I find the ones who yammer the loudest about their "walk with the Lord" are the biggest deceivers. It's one of the many, many reasons I left evangelical Christanity years ago.

25. Oh, Lara, I know of what you speak.....

I grew up under the roof of that environment - and before I say anything more, I'm just gonna post the link of my story here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=2876850#2877808

The reason I posted it, was to illustrate for our fellow DUers what it's like to be forced to live in a way that we know isn't right; and to maybe commiserate with other DUers who have dealt with the same set of life circumstances. If you read some of the replies, however, you'll see that some had a beef with me using the term "baby-boomers" to describe my parents. Totally missing the point, obviously. :)

My parents have disowned me, and I them, over a year ago - and the reason was because I told them that their beloved Bush Administration was a bunch of greedy, radical war mongers who have used the terms "God" and "Christianity" to achieve their end goal: to take over the world. That - and the fact that they didn't care for my admission of being a non-believer.

I feel your pain, more than you'll ever know. :pals:
