I quit AOL because of Ann Coulter. Ask me anything!
They have her scary skanky face on my screen sometimes when I log in and last week they had her listed on a list of their political contributers.

Max Cleland swill was the last straw. Faxed them my cancellation with a letter. Did anybody else?

1. Good for you
If you look up skank in the dictionary, there is a picture of her face.

She considers no blow to be too low. So she ought to be able to take the same right back.

14. I canned AOHELL years ago
... but went back on one of their "two free months!" CD in a can come-ons when I went to Florida to care for a dying parent. I discovered that nothing had changed, that the Pol rooms were still full of shrieking, nasty, narrow, petty, vindictive, and mean spirited right wingers trying to shut down debate and that the content, what little of it wasn't directed toward the kiddies, was heavily right wing. When I got back home and cancelled their worthless butts again, they got an earful of why I'd bothered with their service in the first place, why I'd quit the last time, and why I was quitting again. Oh, I didn't hardass the poor telemarketer bastard on the other end, just stated my case in polite English and told him no, I didn't want another free 3 months, I hadn't accessed it in 2 weeks and I didn't see any reason to access it again.

Beware those "free" months. They expect you to space calling them again to cancel before the end of those "free" months, and they WILL start billing you again. The best thing is to tell them thanks but no thanks.

For all you out there on AOHELL, the net's a great big place, and there's plenty of life after AOHELL. All you have to do is work a little harder to find it.

3. Don't you think
she has something weird going on with Bill Maher? I mean, he has her on all the time, and they actually seem to be flirting. I suspect they have a taboo secret lustfest going on. And I like BIll, but ewwwww.

18. We've long suspected that too
My husband won't watch when s/he is on his show. So I end up missing a few episodes here and there! :P

4. be sure and follow up with this..
check your credit card statements, and make sure you aren't still being billed for the service. They are notorious for claiming your account has been cancelled, and then continuing to bill for it.

9. yeah the information for cancelling said
said something like sometimes they bill you for next month if you cancel near the end of a cycle so if they do call them. Scam artists.

11. Get a cancellation confirmation number
or other proof that you cancelled your membership with them in case they continue billing you.

19. Good for you!
I think a lot of people don't speak up about these types of things. Glad you let them know WHY.

8. I wish people would just ignore her.
Then maybe she'd just go back to the obscurity she deserves & have to get a real job.

12. Be warned...they'll keep "inadvertently" billing your credit card...
...For at least 3 or 4 months or until you fax them something on a legal letterhead.
They're actually under investigation for this practice in several states.

I'm sure Ann the Man approves of this practice.

16. I cancelled them long ago, and made sure I made a political comment when
doing so.

Time Warner AOL are pure propagandists.

17. I've been trying to get my parents to drop AOL for quite awhile
The final straw - AOL has blocked broadband users from sending email to AOL users. Guess who can't email mom anymore?

Sadly, instead of taking a stand I think she's just going to sign up for a Yahoo email account.

Also, pretty interesting re: Coulter... my family are all die hard Dems and my mother seems to know an awful lot of what hate Coulter is spewing on any given day. I avoid reading just about anything from that skank. Now I know why my mom is reading it so often.

20. Good for you
The idea that Coulter has any intellectual legitimacy is just absurd. If one wants to refute what she says, one need only say that so-and-so's mother does not wear army boots.

That slander against Cleland is awful.

for extra months...they just don;t take CANCEL for an answer...as to asking you anything, what do you do with all those "free AOL"discs that keep popping up in the mail? Are they useful for anything?
