Pledge of Allegiance Misspeak
When we were kids, my sister used to think the pledge said " God shed his skin on thee" and she always wondered why he molted on America.

I used to think that "indivisible" implied that America could not do math.

Anyone else out there confused early on in your civics educaion?

...anyway, I remember doing the Pledge everyday, in my one and only year in the AZ public school system (we never did the pledge back here, in MN) and I always recited "indivisible" as invisible.

3. I thought it was fur...
"God shed his fur on thee." (It was the only context I had for something being shed.)

The idea of a shedding deity was confusing, but vaguely funny to me...

5. Anyone remember the Ramona children's books?
Ramona learns The Star Spangled Banner, but doesn't quite understand what a dawnser is. She figures it's like a lamp, because the song talks about the dawnserly light. So one evening when it gets dark she tells her sister to turn on the dawnser.

In a similar vein, the grace my father always said included the phrase "...and for the many blessings Thou hast bestowed upon us...." I once asked what the housepa stoda was.

6. "With liberty and justice for all" - I used to think they were serious
when they said this. Now I know better.
