..also mercury, cadmium, chromium and arsenic ...jays'us h christ! there's an E-waste Tsunami ready to roll across the US! Are we ready for it?

Did you get a new computer or television last year? Where is the old one going? Millions (300/500 million) of aging televisions and obsolete computers gather cobwebs in basements and attics. Tons more sit in landfills.

Each of those defunct TV sets or computer screens contains a serious problem - a cathode ray tube (CRT) that contains four to eight pounds of lead, plus cadmium, mercury, toxic solvents and chemicals. When old sets and outdated computers are sent to the landfill, they are crushed, creating potential to release heavy metals and other toxic chemicals into the environment.

and on 911 they estimate that there were 50,000 PC monitors, 300 main frame computers, thousands of scanners, and fax machines, just in WTC1 and WTC 2 never mind the 7 other buildings demolished :scared:

multiply that times 5-9 lbs of lead per .....NYers DON'T BREATHE no matter what their fucking telling you!

1. Yes, there is a lot of dangerous stuff in them. Electronics, in general,
create a lot of poisons in the manufacture and when disposed.

It's really quite hideous.

2. speaking of what's inside a pc

took mine apart to put in a new drive and the damn thing was full of dust.

Key West air is so full of stuff you can dust off a piece of furniture and stand and watch the new dust settle, it's white. Have often wished I could afford to send some to a lab for testing.

3. Key West, huh?
White? Could it be sea salt by any chance?
Sure wouldn't be coke now, right?

4. I'm sure some of it is corel dust and a bit might be sea salt but
we don't have big waves coming onshore to put the salt into the air.

and we incinerate trash and garbage which can really stink downwind. (the incinerater burned itself up the other day)

I've seen one chem trail last yr. (where there is one there is two)

and I'm near the flight path to the airport?

5. 5-9 pounds of lead dust?
I know solder is typically 90/10 tin/lead, but every solder connection is fused. If there was 5-9 lbs of lead dust in your PC I suspect that electrical shorts would render 99.9% of the PCs inoperative.

OK, I see the post addressed monitors. I guess that could be the case, I don't know about that. I think there are toxic materials (mercury gases) in flourescent lighting as well. But PC boxes/laptops, etc are pretty much lead free.

Cadmium plating is pretty well non-existant today...very toxic stuff.
