Advice needed - best veggie burgers
Mind you, I have TWO charcoal grills so the veggie burgers will not be touching the meat burgers.

What are the best teasting veggie burgers?

Strictly meat only here - those plants, you make them suffer being plucked out of the ground and cooked at high temperatures.

I figured they were ready to die and thus left the plant therefore I could eat those

7. Well, there are two basic types, plus portabello mushrooms.
There are the Boca style burgers, which attempt to taste like burgers. They all have a beef coloring, sort of. They are pretty good, though the texture usually is a bit mushy when microwaved. They are better grilled than microwaved. There are a lot of brands--Amys, Boca, Morningstar, and a bunch of others I don't remember. They can come flavored, such as Texas style burgers, or Italian style, or whatever.

The other type is the Gardenburger style burger, which is more of a nuts and vegetables type burger substitute. They are usually a brown-rice color, with flecks of veggies in them. I don't like them as much to replace hamburgers, because they taste more like the bread than the burger, and they tend to not taste as good with mustard and other stuff. Some are great as an eggplant parmesian type replacement, or with milder flavors. I just don't like them as burgers.

A third option is to spread some Italian dressing or some other tangy vinagrette style dressing over portabello mushroom caps (you can even soak them for a while) and grill them for a few minutes on each side, until they get soft and a bit mushy. To me that's the best grilled burger. The texture is good without feeling like a failed meat imitation, it has a lot of flavor, and it holds up well to burger dressings. It gets a bit messy, depending on how long you cook it--mushroom juice, you know.

Then there are a million recipes for bean burgers, spinach burgers, and a lot of other stuff that's just way too much trouble for my lazy self to make.

Those are my observations and experiences, anyway.

13. When this carnivore doesn't feel like eating a meaty burger
I go for Morningstar Grillers Prime, though I've only done them on a grill pan indoors, not on a charcoal or gas grill.

they are potato based and have a nice indian spicy flavor to them - they are to die for...... unlike most veggie burgers that are soy based....

17. I like Morning Star Grillers Original; they have the texture that is most like meat.
We like them on French dinner rolls, with lettuce, tomatoes, slice of onion, dill pickle slices and mayo and mustard for me, and ketchup for the big guy. They aren't vegan though.

Amy’s Bistro Burger is more like a Boca Burger and has a texture like the bun, it is just like eating a bun burger.

One fast food burger places here serves a veggie burger, but it is like a Boca Burger as well, most restaurants use Boca style burgers.

You are very thoughtful, two grills and all.

18. Morning Star black bean burgers
Don't taste much like "meat" but they have a great texture and flavor of their own. I love to put crumbled blue cheese and vidalia onions on them, and serve them in an onion roll. Yum.

Morning Star Grillers Prime taste almost like real hamburgers, though will less fat, and vegetarian friendly.

As for Boca burgers, my son likes them, but to me they taste like mush. Meh.

If you want a meat-like burger, Boca is best. Otherwise, Veggie burgers are delicious.

32. I'm partial to the store brand at Price Chopper actually.
Not only really good taste, but comparatively cheap. The vegan ones are best.

Of course, this only helps if you have Price Chopper where you live.

36. I've found it's all about expectations....
For pure taste, my preference is the original Gardenburger. But, cheese is among the ingredients making it unsuitable for vegans, AND it really has no similarity to an actual hamburger. It's more like a casserole shaped into a patty. It's yummy, but it's nothing like a burger.

The most meat-like, in taste and texture, in my opinion is the Boca Burger. Grilled (being careful not to overcook them) and they will sometimes satisfy my burger craving.

For the record, I'm a meat eater (lover, actually!) but I've had many roommates that were some version of vegetarian or vegan so I tried all of these offerings and was surprised to find many of them fairly tasty, once you accept the fact that it's NOT meat.
