My parents lost their dog yesterday
Freida was a 15yr old dachshund, has had kidney/liver problems for the past couple of years

my folks were on a cruise and due back yesterday, my brother and sister were taking care of the dog and cats...

when my brother went there yesterday morning to feed/water and let the dog out -- she seems a bit loggy, but ate/drank and did her business. Up until yesterday, there seemed to be no big change in her activity level or other behaviors

he came back after work - around 2pm and found her dead. an hour later my parents arrived home from their vacation. They brought the dog to the vet to be cremated

my mom called me last night, she was really really upset -- Freida was her baby.

don't know if they plan on getting another dog or not -- past couple of years my mother has mentioned it, but has gone back and forth on getting another dog or not for various reasons

1. Hi radfringe
I'm facing it with my 15 year old yorkie, he's getting there too.

Sorry to hear it for your parents' loss...another dog would be good for their spirits...but a dog that wouldn't be so demanding, sounds like the dachshund was perfect, they are great pets!

2. We have buried so many pets over the years. It's very sad, but
your parents can feel happy that they were able to make an animal so loved. Humans just live longer than pets, and we have to make the best choices for them.

5. I lost my 16-year-old dog three years ago and still grieve for
her. If we manage to toss the squatters out of the White House, I'm getting another. If not, I'll wait until I resettle.

My sympathies to your parents. :grouphug:

6. My Heartfelt Sympathies
go our to your parents and you. I do truly understand the grief and sadness they are feeling. Our pets are more than just companions or living playthings... they are cherished members of the family. Obviously, Freida was loved very much.
