St. Valentine's Day Massacre
One February evening in North Chicago, seven well-dressed men were found riddled with bullets inside the S.M.C Cartage Co. garage. They had been lined up against a wall, with their backs to their executioners and shot to death. With the exception of Dr. Reinhardt H. Schwimmer these men were mobsters working under the leadership of gangster and bootlegger, "Bugs" Moran. Within a few seconds, while staring at a bare brick wall, these seven men had become a part of Valentine's Day history: the St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

1. I am sad
Valentines Day showed me that I need to move on and maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

I may have spelled that wrong, it's late I'm tired but intersting story nevertheless.

4. And better than the shooters that day, Verne Miller and
Machine Gun Kelly.
Both got theirs not much later.

6. The great Roger Corman...
director of many awful films, made a pretty decent pic of the same name.
Jason Robards played Capone, and Bruce Dern played the auto mechanic unlucky enough to be in the garage that morning.

Back in reality, there is some dispute about the conversation between Frank G. and the cops. Supposedly it went this way, with Frank shot to pieces on his death bed:

Cops: "You're going to die. Who shot you?"
Frank G.: "Nobody shot me."

trivial tidbit: grandfather of one of my best friends lived in Chicago at the time and went over once things had returned to normal and chipped out a piece of brick from the exterior. It became a family heirloom

9. I always wondered if this is what 'Some Like it Hot' was trying
to depict - both the scenes when Curtis/Lemmon are in the garage as well as when the gunman jumps out of the birthday cake....

Always wondered if that's was an ironic tease which Marilyn Monroe repeated when she did 'Happy Birthday Mr President'....

12. That's a fascinating story
and that event marked the beginning of the Federal Govt.'s determination to take down the mob.

Too much bloodshed, too many innocents killed, too many crooked officials on the mobsters' payrolls.

Thanks for the link, Z :hi:
