A funny thing happened at a funeral today
I went the Ukrainian Orthodox funeral for the father of one of my college roommates this morning. As you can probably imagine, the service is very majestic with lots of chanting and singing and prayers. During the consecration -- which was sung -- they paused for a moment and someone's cell phone went off to the Can Can tune. I don't know how they managed it but it happened three times during the prayer -- all during the pauses. I'm sure the person couldn't find it and was horribly embarrassed but it did provide a bit of comic relief.

1. That is a bit funny! But aren't people smart enough to even just
shut the damn cell phone off?

:grr:

2. I know...I thought of that too
I shut my cell off automatically when I walk into a church.

3. Sorry
I wouldn't find that funny and I love inappropriate, irreverent humor. If that were my dad's funeral I would be PISSED.

5. A friend's father's funeral, very sad (sudden tragic death), very somber,
and right at a very intense yet quiet part of the service...

Funkytown. F'in FUNKYTOWN. Volume=11, tone=God-awful-compressed-MIDI. And it went on. And on. And on.

Now, at a Christmas Eve service a few years back, right as we started "Silent Night," what do we hear? Cell-phone FUNKYTOWN! Then, mother and daughter got into a kerfuffle over the incident. Twas quite amusing to watch from the choir loft.

10. Before Midnight Mass a few years ago...
my aunt complained about people whose cell phones went off in church. At the precise moment she ended her rant, HER cell phone rang.

8. That reminds me of what happened during my aikido lessons
At the beginning of the lesson, we had a ritual where we would line up, kneel at the edge of the mat, bow to O Sensei, clap twice, bow again, and begin practice. at the time, I had the Star Wars Imperial March as my cellphone ring. We just got past the first bowing part when it went off. Hilarity ensued.

9. I hope a lot of funny things happen at my funeral
In fact I insist on it. Lots of drinking and dancing and of course a Jazz Parade down Bourbon Street hopefully with lots of coeds flashing their breasts at my Urn of Ashes. I want my funeral to be a party, a celebration of my life, not a sad occasion at my passing.
