Things you spend money on that aren't as good as DU
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 03:07 PM by elad
Let's examine some common things people happily spend money on regularly, yet provide less entertainment and information than DU does.

Various things you probably spend money on:
-------------------------------------------
Going to a movie with a friend: $20
Eating out with a friend: $30
A night of drinking: $25
Monthly cable bill with lots of channels: $50
Renting a couple movies: $8
A week's worth of morning newspapers: $7
A new cd: $15

Now, let's compare these prices with DU:
----------------------------------------
One-time donation for the fund drive (average): $25
Monthly donation (average): $15

We only ask you guys for money once every 3 months - how many times EVERY month do you spend money on those other things listed above? You're willing to pay for them, yet they don't provide you with anywhere near the entertainment and information value of DU, nor with the community and the relief of being able to network and communicate with tens of thousands of other people around the world who feel like you do!

Of course, you don't HAVE to donate to enjoy DU. But just think about how much time you spend on DU, and how much you pay for other sources of entertainment and information, and I think you'll see that not only is DU a bargain, but considering the amount of time most people spend posting on DU, why wouldn't you donate? DU is providing you with a service, and that service requires a lot of money to provide. We don't charge people for access to DU, like most traditional service providers do, we depend on the good-will of our members to do that on their own. So please, take a moment and make a donation to DU - you know it's worth it!

Thanks!

2. Just add the "movie" and "eating out" parts to the drinking.
You don't waste your time with that anyway. :P

I love that line. I long thought he said "The Printer is dead", whcih makes sense since he was working on a computer at the time... but after buying the DVD and hearing it clearly (that is, not a second generaation poorly dubbed video tape), I caught it.

Love it!

5. Quite honestly..
I would readily make a donation to DU this quarter, however, I am broke as a joke.

After this little move to Seattle and paying for my rent (which will be expiring soon.. :O ) I have nothing. Damn I better find a job soon..

Anyway, I will dontate to DU every quarter after I have stable work. I swear!

6. I can tell you don't live in NYC!
$25 for a night of drinking. HA HA!

Like Lewis Black (a NYC denizen) said to the audience in Madison, WI - if I come to Wisconsin for four days of drinking, even with the airfare, it's cheaper than New York.

11. Kitty Litter
I spend about $20.00 a month on it and no matter how good they say it is, the shit always stinks. The gun dungeon smells sometimes, but I never go down there. :-)

17. Eating out is an insidious drag on the budget...
Skip it once or twice a week, and pass the cash to DU.

Very easy to do. And probably healthier!
