I just saw American Splendor
Total genius. I remember the comics - and I remember the MTV commercials with Toby Radloff. Watching Pekar slam General Electric for warmongering and NBC for conflict of interest live on the David Letterman show was awe-inspiring.

All you snobs will love it - the movie and his graphic novels have won awards. Everyone else will love it too - go see it immediately!

1. I bought it without even seeing it...
And wasn't let down. Brilliant, brilliant movie. And the nerd guy actually talks a lot like Bush when he's trying to be elocutional.

2. Great movie...but why did they cop out on the Letterman thing...
I mean they had the rights obviously to all the letterman clips that he did since they showed the originals and not reinactments. So why didnt' they show the original?

I thought it was a great movie and I didn't know anything about Pekar or the comics or anything else.

4. No.
Letterman refused to release that show. Still upset about it, I guess.

7. But he was obviously on good enough terms...
with Pekar and the makers of the movie to release the other clips. Was it that bad?

5. Watched it last night.
Very good movie done in a perfect way. Having the real people in the movie as well as the actors playing them was genius. I doubt, however, that everyone would love it. It's too good for that!

6. Best movie of last year....
And I was huge Pekar fan for a long time, and worried that they'd butcher his story....No such worries: it was fantastic and definitely on my all-time top ten.

8. That Giamatti is one hell of an actor!
I hereby resolve to try to stop referring to him as "Pig Vomit", after his character in "Private Parts."
