Poll question: How venomous is the atmosphere at GD 2004 Primary?
Any one who has visited that forum recently knows what I am talking about. So with that in mind, if you had to pick one, which of the following pursuits would you select?

1. would a Gay-Barbara Bush option be 'other'?

that would be abusive and traumatic ... of course, I've been through a number of corporate working days under abuse and trauma, and have a good opinion of what it's like ... it'll wear you down and out ... and, the really sad part, it doesn't have to be this way ... such is the way of our contemporary world? ... is it part of the American culture?

2. I would rather
tape broken glass to my entire body and then roll down a bumpy hill into oncoming traffic while eating crackers and whistling the Macerana.

4. Protection???
I would certainly plan on protected sex in any form with either Barbara or Karl. Equally, I'd plan on wearing a dry suit (sort of a full body condom) bathing in a septic tank or snorkeling in a canal. I suppose I could wear ear plugs while the Savage One was speaking, but WHAT, pray tell, can I do the both read and be protected from the contects of GD2004?

8. It is beyond unbearable.
Even when an occasional intelligent post is attempted, the responses to it are nothing but what you might run into "snorkeling in the canals of Venice" (my choice in the above poll).

The sad truth is, the forum has become largely worthless. The roots of this failure lay in the very approach that the DU community adopted, as primary season approached. Namely, instead of articulating a set of principles, and referring to them to pose the question "Which candidate most faithfully represents these principles?", DU immediately started squabbling about candidates. This reduced the entire discussion to nothing but ferociously-held differences of opinion about personality and image.

10. You are absolutely right
GD 2004 Primary is an exercise in the worst kind of discourse. It is, quite frankly, a disgrace. And mostly because of the way people approach politics. The "team sport" and "my horse" element to it makes it seem that whenever anyone posts, it is never about the polis or the common good, but about the poster, and his or her own "feelings." This is truly the downfall of any useful political discussions.

90% of the posts I see there are about individual posters and their personal gripes; it is rare that anyone shows any concern with the common good at all. A sickening display, from start to finish.
