8. You Know... The Hokey Pokey Has Never Been Done At Any Wedding Reception..
... that I've ever attended, so it didn't even enter my mind.

You're right though... I should add it.

10. I knew if I whined...
and looked pitiful you'd add it. I even waited and didn't vote for "Other" so I could go vote for the Hokey-Pokey.

If you've never had to do it in public as an adult at a wedding reception then you are a lucky lucky boy. :-)

21. Here it is ...
Will DUers forgive me if I admit to knowing this dance?

In my defense, I inflicted NO silly dances at my wedding reception; we just had a nice sit down dinner for 25 of my bestest peeps.

Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 11:02 AM by Kellanved
However the true horror of a Conga Line ("Polonaise") only surfaces if this song is used:
"Gottlieb - Polonaise Blankenese" . And it is used often here :puke:

As much as I hate the Chicken dance I have to go with the Macarena.

14. I dance the Chicken Dance on a competitive level
I have won many awards and medals,
and the CDSA is petitioning the Olympics for inclusion of the Chicken dance as a recognized sport in the upcoming Summer Olympics.

This thread offends me deeply.

15. Oh Dear! I Am Truly Sorry... I Didn't Realize.
I completly forgot about the folks who belong to the Professional Chicken Dancers of America (PCDA) and the Professional Worldwide Alliance of International Chicken Dancers and Chicken Dance Instructors (PWAOICDACDI).

This thread was not intended to demean those professionals who devote their lives to perfecting their craft on a competitive level.

Can you forgive me? :hi:

25. I actually LIKE the Chicken Dance
It's the one time when everyone, kids and adults, grammas and granpas, partners or not, gets up and is willing to look silly and fun all at the same time. I love a community that's willing to laugh at itself in good fun.

Even the wheelchaired-grannies can do two Chicken-Dance moves... very sweet to see them get in on the hilarity.

23. HOW TO CHICKEN DANCE: It's A Dance That's Done To A Polka-sounding Tune
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 11:20 AM by arwalden
The participants stand in a circle and in unison the complete the following moves in beat with the music...

1) both hands imitate a chicken-beak (like a talking sock-puppet)
2) both hands go under the armpits to make flapping wings
3) then everyone shakes their butt (like Chubby Checker's "twist") and slowly squats and twists toward the ground --- to lay an egg?
4) followed up with 4 quick claps.

Then we all LAUGH at how silly we're acting... we stand up and do it again... to a tune that's getting INCREASINGLY FASTER AND FASTER!

Oh the hilarity of it all! Finally the music is going SO FAST that nobody can keep up.

24. I hate them all, started new ones...
I have been best man at many a wedding. All of the above songs were BANNED by the wedding party.

In their place was :

Linus and Snoopy theme
Bring tha Noise -Public Enemy
Gator

Led to some very odd looks. Especially with gowns and tuxes slam dancing to PE!

It is truly silly. But a question: if you do not have the Chicken Dance at your reception, can you really be legally married? I'm not sure... ;)
