I'm really sad.
It's almost my 31st birthday, and I feel like my life is over, and I'm just pointlessly existing...the country and the world are going to hell, one of my roomies is laid off and another is stuck in a job she hates; I can't have my kids stay in our apartment because there isn't room; my youngest has been calling my ex's girlfriend "Mama," and everything...well, it looks bleak from here.

2. Get soom sleep
try to think of other stuff, or nothing at all for now. Watch a comedy. See how things look next week.

3. Do what I do
Don't take things seriously. It helps. After all, feeling bad is unlikely to change things for the better. Plus, I've never been in a situation that was totally lacking in humor - frequently at my own expense.

5. Oh, man.
I really hope things get better for you. You don't deserve this. Hitting your 30's definitely doesn't make you feel better. I'm the same age as you are.

6. Things are really, really tough for a lot of us right now
I'm stuck in the worst job in America (at least, until I find
another one) but I feel almost lucky compared to my friends and
family members who are unemployed in every corner of the country.
You sure have a number of problems at the moment, but you're
still very young! I **WISH** I were 31 again! There's a hell of
a lot of living ahead of you, and you should try to stop thinking
in terms of numbers and just be, and try to become what you want.
My impression is that a great many people are barely treading
water right now. Take your mind off your other issues and focus
on addressing just one. And drop that silly fixation on age! Once
a person reaches maturity, there's little point in counting
anymore anyway.
If I were you, I'd turn my attention to that kid. Just my two
cents' worth.

7. I don't want a lot of living
My kids live in Wisconsin; I live in Seattle. For reasons I won't go into, I can't move there and they can't move here.

Everything seems to be sliding into a morass of suckage that will never end; and I'd be rather happy to know I had only a couple more years to slog through, instead of the potential decades that lie ahead.

11. Sometimes when I think my life is really crappy
I remind myself how many people in this world would give
anything and everything to trade places with me.

9. my thirtieth year was bad for me, too
the highlight had to be arguing with my doctor because she wanted to admit me to the hospital for dangerous depression, telling her that I couldn't afford a hopsital stay and thinking no way could I let my family know I was that depressed. This argument went on in a crowded waithing room with my husband who looked like a deer caught in headlights and my two young daughters listening. After escaping the waiting room, my husband yelled at me for telling my doctor my detailed plan for killing myself. He thought I was doing it for attention. After that I think he noticed how much time I spent curled on the couch crying.

I am sorry you are sad. The only comfort I have to offer anyone is that I got better, and life since then has been better than I could have imagined. Some of the time. Things can get better, even if you can't see how, just now. I will hope for you that they do, and soon.

10. life begins at 40 !!!!!
which I never thought I'd live to see , and yet here i am !!
Two things i've learned: when you are down, help someone else !! For some reason it WORKS, maybe by taking your mind off your troubles, maybe the good karma, I don't know. I just know it works, it saved my ass many times !!!
The second thing that has always helped me is this, always try to maintain your dignity !!! No one can take that away from you, but WE can give it up in the blink of an eye, and that just makes life harder.
Please hang in there ?? OK?? Better times are right around the corner, It always swings that way, like a pendulumn.
My brother took his own life in september, and it is the saddest thing i have ever experienced, and i can't help him, but maybe i can help you !!!

12. I'm very sorry
I'm turning 32 in a few more days and thank God for my children because that's all I have. They're the only reason I am where I am and my love for them is all that seems to matter in this world. You're story makes me so damned sad. What you said made me cry and then all these other things that are going on (and not going on) in my life are flooding into my brain right now and sometimes I can't stand it, it hurts so much.

I am so sorry you're in pain. My pain is a different kind, but I truly empathize with you. (as if there were ever enough sometimes)

I need to sleep. It's been a tough night.
