2. Is it
exciting/challenging or just a paycheck?

Don't forget to save your dental records
as proof of employment.

Congrats!

4. LOL
I actually am very much looking forward to it. I have assigned the task of cataloguing, and organizing the paleontological teaching collections at my university, as well as integrating collections from a college in New Jersey that aparently closed in the 1990s and donated their collections to us.

And I think my dentist has my dental records.. LOL

Thanks!

7. A lot of it...
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 01:29 AM by DinoBoy
...has been identified and labelled, there is a lot of "mess" in the collection though for four reasons:

1) A lot of things are in the wrong place
2) A lot of things are misidentified
3) A lot of things are just not identified, numbered, or labelled
4) There is no catalogue telling them everything they actually have in their collection

Luckily, the invertebrate portion of the collection is a little more organized and has a lot of extra space in the cabinets, which can accomidate the new specimens, as well as help alleviate some SERIOUSLY over-full drawers.

The vertebrate collection is a little bit more messy, and seems to have been "I'm just going to put random unlabelled stuff in every single drawer and shelf."

It should be fun though!

10. hey congrats
That sounds like a fun job.

I think I know the college in NJ to which you are referring. It's not far from me--beautiful campus.

Real footprints don't normally have tool marks like they were carved.

13. will you be devising processes for future cataloging and maintenance
to help keep things organized going forward (a process step map for when things are checked-out, or new things come in); and, will you be creating a file for the library's website so researchers seeking info on-line will know what is available from the library (which would require a process step should anything new comes in - e.g.,the cataloging process would require a things-to-do step to: update the PC file)

16. I am not sure
I need to assess what we already have and the manner that it has been catalogued in the past. I'd like to have a taxonomic-based cataloguing system, but I'll have to see what's there already.

19. What is your background that qualified you for the job?
I am asking because that sounds like a cool job. I am a BA in biology and in quality assurance in a food plant and am considering other fields.
