62. Agree. And I'm old.
I think Alt rock is the legal heir of the great 60s and 70s classic bands, the great early 80s New Wave bands and the great 90s Grunge bands. It's the next great, obvious state of musical evolution.

That being said, I like all styles, except CW. It's just that Rock is in my blood, so it'll always be my favourite.

I like experimental music.... hard to explain what it is, but it's a real thing (things described as "experimental" as if it were a genre, generally aren't really experimental, just "strange").

I also really like types of rock and roll, from the old stuff up until now-ish, though I'm largely ignorant of what's going on with the pop music in the last 5 - 10 years. I in that vein, I especially like:
the beatles
syd barrett
the velvet underground
bowie
brian eno
kraftwerk
the clash
joy division
the cure
dead boys/stiv bators
echo and the bunnymen
john hartford
my bloody valentine

Starting way back when the record store/headshop clerk dude told me to check out the guitar playing on Jeff Beck's new album Wired.

Nowadays Satriani is my be all and end all for that.

70. In-your-face, guitar-based, blues-influenced rock and roll.
If the guitar isn't front and center, I'm pretty much not interested.

I had three heroes growing up: Neil Young, Frank Zappa, and John Lennon.

Also knew ALL of the classic British bands: The Who, The Stones, The Kinks.

Thought Paul Revere and the Raiders represented the garage band dreams of every teenager across the U.S.A.

It's got to be real and honest or I don't want to know about it.
