3. My money says this one is a stinker too.
Carrell sucks in formulaic comedy. He made two good movies, got noticed by the big studios, and has been sucking ever since. He's actually, of course, pretty funny in deadpan comedy. But he keeps picking really terrible material.

6. "he's actually, of course, pretty funny in deadpan comedy"
I take it you never watched the original Get Smart, then. (Get Smart = heavy on the deadpan comedy)

7. You take it wrong
Do you really need me to go over with you the number of classic shows that Hollywood has remade into utterly unfunny movies?

Exempli gratia:
naturally funny = Steve Martin
not funny at all = Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau

11. Wow, non sequitur.
I never said Hollywood hadn't massacred most of its recent adaptations of old TV shows. I said THIS one, based one what I've seen of it, looks like it might be really, really good, and pointed out that Carell's gift with dry and deadpan comedy--something YOU said you like--makes him especially well-suited to play Maxwell Smart.

So, no, I don't need you to go over anything with me, thanks so much.

4. No. Just. No. I'm so sick of Steve Carell.
He's no Don Adams.

8. I'm getting sucked into this one
I a fan of "Get Smart" and although I haven't seen any of Carrell's movies in whole I know what you mean about him not being funny in certain roles...but I'm hopeful, perhaps unjustly so.

14. Oh god. That's a good reason to NOT see the movie.
He's about as funny as Jim Carrey. :eyes:
