Hey Lounge, what kind of car do you drive? I'm just curious.
I have a 2002 Protege5 and a 1997 Citroen ZX. I mostly drive the Citroen.

2. this one

Same color and everything.

I love this car. Gets 33 mpg, fits into a compact space just like a Corolla, and when you put the back seats down, it fits a full-sized washing machine in it.

10. Just be aware that
the newer models have a bigger engine, they're getting about 26 mpg--but they're peppier. Mine can't get out of it's own way. But I'm an old lady, so I don't race very often.

Front wheel drive, came w/ and iPod jack, and it makes me feel little because it's got about a foot of head room over my head.

I also like that it's made by Toyota. Toyota has never failed me yet.

And I agree about the newer models. They don't get nearly as good gas mileage, which was one of the big attractions for me. And they aren't as goofy looking, and I like goofy. My one beef is that the road clearance is SO LOW. Other than that, I love my lil toaster.

103. from what I've read, they're safer than most small cars
I like that I'm not afraid of a rollover like I was in my old SUV so the turns are more fun. :)

I'm typically a very defensive driver and I refuse to answer my cell phone while on the road so this is probably why I feel safe. The only issue is I have to rely on friends or moving trucks whenever I make a big purchase.

75. Yup
There's only a few cars of that vintage on which I'd put anything other than Cragars. From a '55 Chevy to a '72, they're the stylin' wheels.

I don't think they look right on Corvettes, though. Classic 'Vettes should keep the Rallye wheels from the factory.

Mustangs from the '60s look good with Ansen-style slotted mags as well as Cragar SS, for some reason.

Crappy mileage, but I bought it new, back in the Good Ol' Days when mileage didn't matter as much. You know--back when gas prices were HALF what they are now. :grr:

Now it's paid for, and I can't afford to take on a car payment since I quit my job to freelance, so I need this little lady to keep on chugging for another 100K if she can handle it.

In the meantime, I will enjoy how much fun it is to drive, even though it's falling apart one piece at a time, and enjoy being in the cool club of Wrangler drivers waving to each other on the road. :D )

However, turn it off, and launching hard is just about impossible. Tires go up in smoke, and the wheel jerks all over.

Uh, or so I've heard or something. Not that I've tried it.

74. i was taught to drive by my Dad who always had manual transmissions so thats
what i always bought, i had one automatic and i was bored silly, it's like being on autopilot. The sad thing is that manuals are being done away with on many models, Toyota stopped making the camry with a stick and when i bought a Honda they had to get one for me from 200 miles away because they had no stick shifts, "People just don't want them anymore" well i do, same thing when i bought my Bug, only one dealer had one with a stick that had the stuff i wanted.

My daughter is 13 but i've already started teaching her drive my car, it's never too early to learn.

68. How do you like it?
I'm considering getting that one in the next year or so. I'm also considering the VW GTI, Subaru WRX, and Mazda6 v6 unless I am willing to pony up for the Mazdaspeed6.

All that power sounds really good except for the fact that it all goes to the front wheels.

nice bike, can you lock your rear suspension?

77. I love it.
For the money, it can't be beaten. I drove the WRX, and the AWD is nice, but the extra cash puts it in Mazdaspeed6 (also AWD) territory, which I like better than the Subaru. The WRX is also only *slightly* faster in the 1/4 than the 'speed3, but the 3 handles 10x better IMO. The 'speed is also a good deal more comfortable.

The initial launch can be tough, but the next 3 gears remind me a LOT of my 87 Grand National. Boost, sweet beautiful boost.

I have the first generation Sugar with the Cane Creek AD5, so it doesn't lock out. I ride it hard, so I've never missed the feature.

86. I think I'm averaging about 30 right now
I tend to be heavy on the gas pedal in town. I really have to floor it on the highway to get it to zoom (a little frustrating) but it will move. Caught myself doing about 90 on the way to Durham last week  :spank:

I could get much better mileage...I just have to slow down.

78. It is fun to drive but the poor thing
doesn't get put to its paces. Kinda like trotting a racehorse when it's being driven by a 52-year-old math teacher! ;) The tires are too expensive to leave any rubber on the road. But you'd be amazed how many young guys in sports cars will pull up next to me at the light and give me a vroom-vroom like they're going to race me! Many of them are really sweet and give me a thumbs up or call out, "I like your car!" And it gives me an added "cool" factor with my college students.

Not the Speed3 (they didn't make one in 2006- not that I needed 250 HP at the time). The 160 HP of 2.3 liter seems to be enough.

Way fun to drive. It can really move and still gets decent mileage (24 MPG in town, 30-32 highway). Plus it fit four adults and all our luggage on a road trip. Lots of room in the backseat (more than my dad's Mercedes C230 in fact).

I am only 4' 11", so it really helps me see over the other cars. Plus, I can see over the dashboard and can reach the pedals.
It is only 6 miles to work, and the gas mileage is not too bad.
I love it.

I have a 2006 Scion xB now, and I like the gas mileage, but it's SO LOW. All these big ass trucks here in Texas are hard to see over. Fortunately, I don't have to drive a lot.

153. 2005 Town & Country and 2000 Saturn LW2
I've been very happy with both. My T&C has 44,000 miles, and never a problem. I was initially very apprehensive about getting a minivan, but now I love it. My Saturn has over 140,000 miles, but still runs fairly well, but the timing belt may be on its last legs, and it has a leak in the coolant tank, which will both cost more to fix than the car is worth. The Saturn was hit head on in 2002 (at 35 mph), and had to be completely rebuilt at the front end. I can vouch that it is an extremely safe car...my kids and I walked away from the accident; I was very sore for a few days, but otherwise unhurt.

This is not my car, but looks like it:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/8591954@N05/545192583/

Mazdas have transmission problems. This one is on its third transmission. Houston is hell on automatics with heat and heavy traffic. People who drive stick shifts around here wear out their clutches really quickly.

If you fear for your life you get a six cylinder instead of a four, so you have enough pickup to get out of the way of some maniac barreling down on you in a pickup or SUV.

165. 2008 Honda Pilot SUV

Recently bought it to use here in Colorado. Got rid of a sleek, expensive German number that we brought with us when we moved from Texas; it turned out to be an absolute death trap on all the ice and snow up here.

And by the way....we chose the navigation option on the Pilot, rather than the rear entertainment system, BUT---you people with young kids ought to get down on your knees and thank God that such diversionary electronic devices are now available. When I think about the back-seat riots that used to break out on long trips between my bored, restless daughters, years ago.....

169. 1991 Buick LeSabre, 2003 Olds Bravada
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 10:55 AM by AZDemDist6
the Buick is a great car that I drove for a year until hubby got a new job 30 miles away. It gets (marginally) better mileage (24-27) than the Olds so he's driving the wheels off it. 136,000 and going strong with it's 6 cyl. front wheel drive

the Bravada doesn't fit our lifestyle anymore but we only owe another year of payments on it so we'll hang on to it. It does have the 6 cyl in it also but only gets about 20MPG. Luckily I only drive about 5000 miles a year

here's the Buick

and the Olds looks like this one except it's in the gold/tan color
