Name a scene in a movie that you couldn't stomach
There have been lots, but the worst for me has to be Jackass: The movie.

The paper cuts scene.....<shudder>

8. That would be it.
As a musician myself, it really struck a nerve. And to think that a gal in the band I was in at the time loaned me the tape. :grr:

I've never quite forgiven her for that...

110. The funny thing about that scene
Is that nothing is shown. It's a masterful piece of moviemaking. The director lets your imagination fill in all the details. And it truly is the cringiest non image ever!

125. That IS harsh and graphic.
... but I have to say, it was so disturbing because it *was* so realistic. I still sometimes have nightmares with that scene in them.

I hate when movies glamourize violence... working as a cop and/or a forensic pathologist will do that to ya.

31. Oh gods, yes!
Fortunately, I'd read the book, and knew exactly when to leave the theatre for a popcorn run. The number of people walking out with horrified looks on their faces told me when it was safe to go back in.

The scene in "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover" where the sadistic gangster tortures the kid finished that movie for me. I couldn't take it any more and fled. Good thing, since I was told that movie got even worse after that.

127. Yeah...
... but Stephen King books are ALWAYS scarrier and more graphic when I read them that when they are in movie form... sometimes it sucks having a really good imagination and visualization skills.

To me "Pet Semetary" is waaaay scarrier as a book - the Witiko, when the dad gets Gage from the cemetery and puts him into his van in the garbage bag, and when the wife comes in and puts her hand on his shoulder - those STILL creep me out.

43. The rape scene in "A Clockwork Orange"
But Kubrick wants us to be sickend by it, there's nothing gratuitous about it. I think the movie is brilliant, because the message is that the people in power are far more heinous than Little Alex, the psychopath in the dystopian future. But brilliant or not, I never need to see it again!

52. I can usually rationalize, you know, it is just a movie.
However, that rape scene was psychotic. Monica Bellucci rolling around in bed, sans clothing, might have had something to do with those good reviews. Cut out those two scenes and it was a romp.

92. Total wimp here.....
Pretty much any scene with violence in it, with some very rare exceptions (e.g., some historical dramas with war scenes in them), certainly nothing involving torture, and forget it if children or animals are hurt. I've read Old Yeller but never saw it on film and never will. But there are exceptions -- thought Charlize Theron was breathtaking in "Monster" and watched the whole thing, cringing through the rape scene but I continued to watch. But for the most part, the violence starts and I'm outta there.

55. Deerhunter
Where the VC has the 2 American soldiers facing each other, hands one of them a gun with one bullet in it, and makes him pull the trigger; then has to hand the gun to the other soldier so he can do the same thing - I guess you would call it reverse Russian Roulette.
After that scene, I had to pause the tape, and go outside for a few and get some fresh air - it really got to me. There's nothing worse than violence with a mind-fuck chaser.

58. When Mustafa gets killed in the Lion King
I know it's a cartoon, but his cousin throws him off a cliff and he gets trampled by wildabeasts. It's so sad. I only saw it once (in the theater), but I fast forwarded through that every other time.

Also, in The Land Before Time, the mother gets eaten by a T-Rex on screen and I cried the rest of the movie (this is what my mother says). I've never watched it again, so I couldn't tell you for sure.

(So, I have a soft spot for cartoons? So what? :P)

...What Not to Put in the Netflix Queue. :scared:

There have been times when I've been grateful to a reviewer for laying the cards on the table about what's going to be depicted onscreen. I averted my eyes at several key moments in Fahrenheit 9/11, Nurse Betty (which someone rightly mentioned upthread), and Capote. I wasn't warned ahead of time about the most recent film of The Last of the Mohicans, though.

69. The third quarter or so of The Descent, two scenes in Silent Hill.
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 09:33 PM by seawolf
With The Descent's third quarter, the gore just started coming at too rapid a rate for me to tolerate. First, second, and fourth quarters are pretty good, but #3 was just a gratuitous gorefest.

It's a scary fucking movie, but Neil Marshall sabotaged himself there, and brought down what could have been a classic horror flick to "eh, not bad."

Some of Silent Hill also qualifies for "don't watch." The scene with the screaming, burning child-spirits (which is damned disturbing) and the scene where the fundamentalists burn the cop alive (which is just gross and tasteless, because they decided to render it in excruciating detail).

That scene towards the beginning made me flinch.

There are also some violent scenes in the horror movies Wolf Creek and The Hill Have Eyes (the remake) that were pretty tough to sit through. I like suspense/supernatural horror movies, but not the "torture porn" types, and watched both of those movies w/o doing a good enough job of checking what I was going to be getting into. I'm sure there is worse stuff in movies like Hostel and the Saw series, but I don't plan on ever watching them.

where no Senator would stand up for disenfranchised African-American voters in Fla. President Gore, who's job as sitting Vice-President was presiding over count of Electoral Votes, kept asking the Congressmen/women if they had a Senator to co-sponsor their objection. One Congresswoman, I forget who, said "I don't care if there is no Senator." Gore replied, "Well, the chair does care." Howls of laughter from Repukes. Disgusting

I gotta say- I LOVED this movie other than those slitting parts. The music- Johnny can sing!, the costumes- everything except the graphic details- which- really..
