I had to walk to work today
took me an hour.

Reason? The Public Service is on strike here in Germany and today all Public Transportation was closed down because of that. No bus, no underground, no streetcar. That ment: Walking.

Plus: I got some excerise (and will again this evening when I go home), my face has a fresh color and I am warm .... LOL

:hi:

:D

2. With the car
it would have taken me longer AND I would have had to find a parking spot downtown which is a pain in the ass. The cars were jammed. They were standing more than driving.

So, even with the car I would have walked.

4. It was the first time I walked all the way
and I live here since 2002. But I plan on walking more often this year. Maybe not TO work but back home in the afternoon. It is refreshing and after sitting on the desk all day long also very calming and relaxing.

7. yes. i think of it when i'm at the computer, here on du or writing.
very often i feel like just getting up and going out. walking, contemplating, looking around at things other than inside here.

maybe i'll do it tomorrow--but i have errands to run before i go to work.

we'll see. maybe now, after talking about it, i'll get off my ass and do it.

5. Walking is great, but slow
Got a bicycle? Is there a good bicycle route to work?

Anyway, I hope the strike is settled fast. It'll be a pain if you have to go somewhere far.

6. I have a bike
but I haven't ridden (sp?) it in ages and there is no air in the tires. And I don't think I have an inflator at home. I should ride it more often, I know. I would take the same route to work as I walked today, straightest way to get from my place to downtown (which is where I work).

I hope it settles fast too. But as far as I know today is the only day the Public Transportation is striking. Till now. No idea what happens if the strike doesn't settle.

9. Morning MissH!

Walking to work? Yes, that can be fun, but an hour is a bit long, especially to work. I do like your idea about walking home though. Clears the head, especially after a stressful day.

I would suspect with the strike, that some people have to stay home from work?

can you say migration???? That is what went on this morning.

I had no other choice this morning BUT to walk. Oh I am sure that some people stayed home.

12. Hope that the weather holds
out if you have to continue trekking to work. It's 19 degrees here, and as much as I like to walk, an hour in that temp would not be fun, especially in work clothes.

16. Temps are around 30 here today
so it isn't like walking in the freezing cold. But it is sure enough cold for me. I put on jeans today, not wanting to walk around in thin cloth pants.

As long as it is not raining I don't mind the cold.

19. Oh that's good - not just
too cold! Jeans is a good idea though.

I can't wait until it warms up a bit so I can do more outdoorsy things. Right now our mounds of snow are ice-crusted!

Yearning to get back on the water too!

Do you think I've go Spring fever?

I think everyone in Wisconsin is experiencing Spring fever!

Oh, btw, I'm getting my internet service disconnected today, so I'll only be able to check in here while I'm at work.

It should be reconnected on Tuesday.

This is the weekend that I'm moving!

23. I'll be moving 22 miles!
No more commuting though. I'll only be 1.3 miles from work and I plan on walking, so your walking thread is quite timely.

My new place is close to walking and biking trails, which makes me very, very happy!

I'm taking off of work tomorrow to start the move, and hope to finish on Saturday.

Yes, it is a daunting task, and I can't wait until all of my stuff is moved. It's been a bit stressful these past couple of weeks.

25. The commute is a big factor.
Also, I live in a big old house, and I just don't want to take care of it anymore. I truly don't need all of this space! I'm not happy in this community anymore. Small town, small minded town. Nothing here for me. When weather is good, I'm rarely here, so a move just makes good sense.

27. Yes, downsizing!
I got a rid of a lot of stuff even b/4 I decided to more. And I'll be getting rid of a lot of stuff once I decide what I actually want to keep/need when I'm in my new place. I think we all have far too much stuff . It's part of my quest to become a minimalist, or

minimalistish!

28. That would scare the heck out of me
to have to decide what to keep and what to throw away. When I moved from Lörrach to Frankfurt I moved from a one room apt to a 2 room apt. That was in 2002. By now my apt is stuffed and I am getting problems esp with books

29. I feel your pain about the
books. I did get rid of some and that truly was difficult. But you know, when a person just doesn't have the space, one can decide what's truly important.

Gotta head out now.

Wishing you a great day.

33. Oh yes
and now that I walked it once (twice later on today) I will set my mind on walking it more often. There are no steep hills or anything. Mainly flat, only in the end it goes slightly uphill.

35. I do the same each day
An hour and 15 minutes both ways. I do it because it takes an hour and 15 minutes. I like that it takes an hour and 15 minutes. What I would like even more would be if I didn't know it took an hour and 15 minutes. The only reason I know it takes that long is because there's a damn clock at home and at work. Between home and work though...no silent digits racing relentlessly forward, no clicks of the second hand, no numbers at all. The only way to go.

36. WOW, I'm impressed
not sure I would be able to do that.

I was listening to my music, not caring what time it was while walking, like you said. But I checked when I was at work just to have an estimate.
