Penelope the cat will expire at 4:20 p.m. pacific time.
I am posting this for Penelope the cat. My husband and I will be putting her to sleep today.

She is about 13-14 years old. Pretty, gray and white, green eyes, 13 pounds.

I came to know her when I met my husband. He had gotten her to keep his other cat Hellen company while he worked. I added my cat Meow to the collection. Shortly after that (2000) we moved to CA. We moved away from the crowded and busy streets of Chicago to a small beach town. For the first time ever we let our cats become outdoor cats. They loved every minute of it. They found their own ways in and out of the house. They found their favorite trees and sunny spots.

Then in 2003 Hellen was killed by a dog in the middle of the night. My husband was devastated. He used to take a nap and she would sleep on his back. He has not been able to nap well since. She was black with white paws and chest and a stout 13 pounds 13 years old. Penelope would not come down from the top of the refrigerator for about 8 months.

In 2004 my cat became very ill and I chose to put her down. The vet came and medicated her on out sofa as I held her. Meow, a beautiful, petite, long haired calico who was 14 years old. I was 17 when I got her. All my friends had babies, I got a cat. She has traveled with me all over the country and now rests beside Hellen on a quiet street under a tree where we lived for 6 years, we moved two years ago.

Then came Jackie. My husbands sister moved out here and gave us this cat. She was a good cat who was happy to spend her last few years of her life outside. This time last year Jackie got sick and died in a span of 10 days.

Penelope will join Jackie under the avocado tree. She never got the love she wanted after Hellen was gone. Around 2004 I discovered I was allergic to the cat. Touching her or letting her sleep on my pillow became irritating for me. She doesn't like the dog too much. She has enjoyed killing things in the yard and sleeping on her feather pillows and eating her premium sardines.

Today she will be greeted by all her friends at the rainbow bridge and she will be happy once again.

Good Bye Penelope. We will miss you. And now we will have no cats.

Lilyhoney

7. I'm sorry you're losing a friend.
Maybe I missed it, but what is the reason? How sick is she?

Even 14 isn't that old in a cat. Our oldest was 23 when she died and the 2 we have now (including 1 diabetic) are 18.

11. Thank you everyone who posted and did'nt.
I know reading threads like this are hard. Typing it was very hard. I know how much people here love the cats and dogs and care about others and their pets. I just wanted more people to be thinking of this wonderful little creature as she was making the passage. She is at rest now. And we are sad, and we miss all of the animals we have ever known and loved.

Give something a hug and a kiss and let them know that they are loved. My hugs to all of you.

Lilyhoney

I'm so sorry you've suffered the losses of so many beloved pets in such a short amount of time. It sucks.

You and your husband gave Penelope a wonderful life. She was lucky to have two loving parents, a happy home, and a good long life.

Thinking about you.....

it's always such a hard thing to do, but take some comfort in knowing it's what you promised at the outset - to always do the right thing for her.

Safe passage to Penelope.

28. I am so sorry.
My cats, and there have been many; all hold a very special place in my heart. Somehow, these animals seem to know what to do and when.

When I was going through chemo, my Smokey would not leave my side. Hubby would move her, so that I could get more comfortable, but within minutes; she would be right back. One night, as I dozed halfway sitting up; I felt a weight on my head. It was Smokey. I would like to think that she was comforting me. But; it was winter, and with so much heat escaping from my bald noggin, she may have just found the warmest place in the house.

Whatever reason, she was there, and I told her things I have never uttered to a human.
You just have to consider a cat owning you in the near future. Penelope would like that. :pals:
