6. It's a portion of I-76 in Philadelphia

and it's a BITCH. :)

It runs from the Walt Whitman Bridge (which connects south Jersey to Philly) and continues through Philadelphia metro to the Northeast Extension of the PA Trnpke.

3. Ummmm.....
I have a couple questions, actually!

1. What the hell were you doing on the Schuylkill at night?
2. In the rain?
3. During primaries? LOL
4. Are we talking Harley or bicycle?
5. If it was a bicycle, how did you accomplish this without the cops gettin' ya?

Or maybe this whole thing is a joke to wake us up? :)

I hate doing the Schuylkill in a car, no way in HELL I would do that on a bike!!!! YIKES!

7. well,
1. to be honest with you, it was a combination of opportunism regarding the weather, and wanting to go out for a ride. usually when i do late rides like that, i just go down the parkway to city hall, cross the city back on walnut and then up to powelton, but for what ever reason i decided i wanted a change of scenery.

2. actually, i hit the window when there was no rain. lots of wind on my return trip, but no rain

3. it was 12, everything had been called except the caucus. i had just come back from a watch party and i wanted to get politics out of my system for a little bit

4. an early-80s raleigh single-speed road bike

5. well i wasn't on the expressway, i took the trails right at the river's edge

i know what you mean, though, i never touch 76 from conshy to university city unless it's 3 in the morning and maybe i'm guaranteed no traffic

Misinterpretation of your post over here.

Just getting the mental pic of you on the expressway near gave me an anxiety attack!

Glad you enjoyed your ride! And welcome to DU! :hi:

12. hmm
well, i've done the potomac on the virginia side and that's really it.

although unrelated, a friend of mine does this thing every few years where he starts off in new york and canoes down the delaware back to philly, camping along the way (usually on the small islands in the river).

what are good trails around philly?

10. River or Expressway?
I can't imagine biking on the Sure-Kill Expressway, so I guess you must have meant the river.

11. yep, river
but how can it possibly be the sure-kill? maybe one self from boredom out of the traffic at all hours of the day?

it's funny that they set up speed traps by city ave, yet probably no one is going over 12

14. Sure-Kill
Thirty years ago (when I last lived in that area), people called it the Sure-Kill Expressway because people drove like they were crazy and the road really wasn't designed for that. Of course, not at rush hour, but it sounds like it's "rush" hour now all day and night. I remember one time when I sat at one spot on that road for a couple hours--a tanker caught fire and melted the roadway. Everyone was stuck until they put it out and cleared the debris.

15. yeah, it's usually like that now
except without the tanker.

i think the road that people drive too crazily on is lincoln drive. it's posted at 25 mph, but no one goes below 50 and it has sharper curves than kelly or west river with jersey walls the whole way
