there was a small jet crash here in OKC this afternoon, and our corporate pilot was flying the thing. It wasn't our plane, but he was flying it. And he was just in the office this morning . . . .

Damn, I hate this. The crash was horrible--I keep hoping that it wasn't him, but our COO announced it before we left today, so we're as close to 100% certain as if the FAA had confirmed it to us. He could have flown a tin can with the bottom cut out of it, so I can't imagine what could have happened.

It's bad, and sad, to lose someone like that.
A guy I flew with at TWA went down in the North Atlantic a few days ago.

He was retired, like me, but making some extra money ferrying light planes. Left Iceland en route to Ireland in a Piper Aztec. Ran into heavy icing an hour out of Iceland and turned back.
Evidently couldn't lose the ice and radioed Mayday several times and then nothing.

His memorial service was yesterday.

14. The news now says there were multiple fatalities:

The crash of a small jet in northwest Oklahoma City today has proven fatal, officials said.

There was at least one death and possibly as many as four, said Kevin Rowland, chief investigator for the state medical examiner’s office.

The plane crashed about 3:15 p.m. near NW 10 and Council, said Roland Herwig, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. He said it was a Cessna 500, also known as a Citation. The aircraft departed Wiley Post and crashed 5 miles southwest of Wiley Post.

“We don't know how many were on board at this point,” Herwig said.
