Can you dispute a partial charge to your credit card?
I ordered a couple of items from eLights.com & one of the items was broken when it arrived. I called the company and they said they would send a replacement "right away" along with a shipping label to ship the broken item back. A week & a half goes by with no replacement. I call again & they say "we will ship it out today" (apparently they didn't ship the replacement like they promised). I asked about the return of the broken item & they said I can throw it away. (I smell a rat- if I throw it away they can claim I didn't return it). It has been another week & still no replacement item. I could call them again but whats the point? I am going to buy the item up in Nashville. (I ordered online because the cost to ship was less than the cost of gas plus UPS drives every day regardless so it is better for the environment to not drive myself)

Can I dispute a partial charge? I want to keep the item that arrived intact but don't feel I should have to pay for a damaged item.

you must dispute it in writing, not just on the telephone, or you do not preserve your rights to dispute the charge (in this case, the partial charge)

explain what you have explained here, mail certified return receipt requested so you can prove the credit card company got the letter from you within 60 days of the charge appearing on your statement, and you should be golden

sometimes i've had to send more than one letter, but subsequent letters do not need to be certified, only the first one, after that, you always include a copy of the first letter and a copy of the signed postcard from post office showing they received it

sometimes they'll autmatically deny your request the first 1-3 letters but eventually if your claim is valid and you write to them every month about the item being removed permanently from your bill, it gets gone

6. Gosh, if I'd known you were going to show up, I wouldn't have bothered
I forgot you know everything about anything that's ever happened anywhere. I bow to your superior wisdom.

Why do you feel motivated to be a snotty asshole all the time?

4. Thanks for the info.
I called them & they were very helpful, gave me a dispute number & told me what I need to do. I then called the company up to tell them that if they were considering ever sending it to forget it, I was just going to dispute the charge. They all of a sudden were apologetic and said I would have the item tomorrow. I guess I can wait one more day before sending in the dispute.
