When I was in Austin, waaay back in the, I use to hang out with some lesbians.

They sure knew how to party.

1. I love 'em because they are God's children!
No different from anyone else. They're wired to be lesbian, I'm wired to be a geek who likes copper cookware.

Vive le differance!

3. Don't get me started
Because they're not shy, they are honest, will take up for you (both in front of and behind your back). They know how to party and are often brutal in their ability to mock hypocrisy.

In short, they rock! If I was a woman, I'd want to be a lesbian. They defy convention, just as I do in my way.

10. I've always been drawn to strong, independent women as friends
Straight or gay, outspoken confident women make EXTREMELY good friends and they're a lot of fun to be around. Women's humor can be far more cutting than men's.

5. We have a lot of gay and lesbian friends.
Actually, they are not much different from our straight liberal friends. That's why they are dear friends. That weekend last month in the mountains (I call it "The Big Chill" without a corpse) was a mixed liberal bag. Gays, lesbians, and straights. But you know, our life really isn't about sex anymore. It's more about making the most of the remaining time, giving back to the community, and minimizing the damage we have done to the earth. Our gay and lesbian friends tend to be more attuned to that sort of thing, I think.

Like the ones you can talk with like they're one of the guys.

Like the ones who'll be your wingman or drinking bud.

Like the ones who don't take shit from anybody.

12. Oh, okay.
Yeah, I know some. I'm not like good friends with them, though. These girls I know are really cool people to talk to. I can get along with them really well.

I don't understand why so many people don't like them. It's sad.

46. Newsflash
There are plenty of straight girls who can talk with you like they're one of the guys (I'm one of the guys a lot of the time so I know this from personal experience). I'm a great drinking buddy and I take shit from no one. These traits are not reserved to lesbians.

15. You make great point
The girl I was dating at the time would say, "I don't know where I want to go". Or, "Let's stay home." When my lesbian pals would say, "Let's through party, I'll get the beer." Or, "Let's go check this out"

I felt that I was always trapped trying to please my girlfriend (unsuccessfully), when my Les friends were happy just hanging. And I had a better time. And, get this, WITHOUT ANY SEX!!!

It was an awakening for me. I realized that sex wasn't as important in a relationship as I thought it was.

35. Something I've heard...
...and correct me if I'm wrong, as my understanding of straight dynamics is all secondhand -- is that one common Mars-Venus problem is that guys want a partner to go somewhere and do something with, like fishing, or bowling, or just anything (in addition to sex and all the other stuff in a relationship)... whereas the female half is more like, "Can't you just sit still so we can talk for a change?"

That's what I've heard, anyway. *shrug*

16. For whatever reason, lesbians are the most honest people I know.
Sure, I suppose there's a few that aren't upfront and straightfoward, just like everyone else. That said, *I* haven't met many. If i can make a sweeping generalization, I'd say that I (as a straight male) always know where I stand with a lesbian. They're less likely to mince words, and I love 'em for that.

All I know is, they make great activists, and great DUers, too.

At least four of my Top Ten favorite DUers are out lesbian women.

Unsurprisingly, I remain a bachelor, and without even a crappy reality TV show to show for it. In fact, the only way I know when Valentine's Day is coming up is when the Valentine's spam starts showing up in my inbox.

I've made so many more lesbian friends working on the Dean campaign, and I really treasure their friendships.

Through them I see the world with a different perspective. I wish more straights would see this way.

They are no different than me, but they have fresh, funny viewpoints to share.

25. They have great jokes!
I was at a clean up with some lesbians and they were trying to get a car fender out of the side of a hill. One of them was sitting on her butt pushing the fender with her feet, and we are all grunting and working up a sweat. So one of them yells up, "Has it crowned yet?" we all laugh. The one pushing with her feet yells down "I think its BREACH!" More laughter. I laugh so hard I fall down the hill, two of them help me up, I'm still laughing. And I still laugh at that.

28. Well...
...I only really love one lesbian, and she is the best. Truly makes my life complete, and brings the me out in me.

But the lesbian community is truly great. I have had a lot of fun over the years hanging in chat rooms with lesbian friends, and just having a damn good time.

I was glad for the time I had in the U.S. with Sapphocrat as well, because she arranged for me to meet in person my two closest lesbian friends from online. That is something I will always cherish. :)

29. I'm just envious
Of anyone who doesn't have to worry about birth control. My fertility has been both a blessing and a curse.

Other than that, lesbians are just like strait people. There's some that are nice and some that are not-so-nice. You can't pigeonhole anyone into a good or bad stereotype based on sexual preference anymore than you could because of one's race, gender, or religion.

30. Because...
I am one.
They love me back.
They know the best dirty jokes.
Almost all of them are flaming liberals.
They really know how to organize a potluck.
You don't have to explain what "women's music" is.
Most will trade useful sex tips and kitchen recipes with equal aplomb.
They'll always help you move furniture (or make their lovers help you).
You know there will always be certain "female items" in the house if you have an emergency while visiting.
They don't care if you don't wear makeup.
You don't have to explain what that labrys hanging from your necklace means.
You don't have to explain the functions of the female anatomy to them.
Or apologize for the functions of the female anatomy.
They watch E.R. for Laura Innes, too.
Two words: sensible shoes.
They're the best reason to watch professional tennis.
Or professional golf.
They never leave the seat up.
Somebody in your circle of friends always has the best cordless Black & Decker power tools you can borrow.
They usually know lots of gay guys, who throw the best parties.
You don't have to come out to them repeatedly.
They're the only ones who understand what it's like to be a lesbian.
And because while some of my best friends are straight, dating straight girls is a one-way ticket to nowheresville.

Lots of reasons. Those are just off the top of my head.
