10. Yes, I know.
My daughter almost died of an RSV infection when she was 2 1/2, so I know when to get our asses to the ER.

She is so much better than she was even yesterday. Now that I am starting to have symptoms.

I will get a chest x-ray the moment my fever hits 100, since I catch pneumonia really easily (I have had it 5 times in the past 6 1/2 years).

14. It sure did. Last night he had a 'cold', and this morning, whoo boy.
I got him in to the doc as soon as possible because I was convinced it was pneumonia. He had all kinds of crackles in his lungs.

He seems a bit better tonight after a massive first dose of antibiotics, but the poor kid was a mess waiting with me at the pharmacy. He wanted to come in to see if there was a movie/game or anything that would be interesting and it was a good 15 minutes before we were out of there. Ugh.

Fortunately, he's a good patient. He'll do whatever you tell him to.

So glad little KW is better. Such a scary, scary thing.

18. You are lucky.
We practically have to sit on my daughter to get her to take her medicine. She has always been that way. When she was 2, it took four people to hold her down to give her a nebulizer treatment. She is incredibly strong for her size.

He is so sick, he wants to feel better, which is huge. Compliance seems to get better with age.

25. She does have strength beyond her size and age.
Seriously. By all rights she could very well have died 4 years ago, when she had her severe RSV infection. She fought. She fought getting the neb treatments to the point of having to have 4 people hold her down to do them. But she fought.

34. YEAH! My daughter had a temp of 105 about 10 days ago. She had all the symptoms of flu
But she was diagnosed as having a virus? That fever scared the crap out of me. Meds brought the fever down, and it lowered on it's own, but it took days to break.

According to the CDC these are symptoms of Influenza:

fever (usually high)
headache
extreme tiredness
dry cough
sore throat
runny or stuffy nose
muscle aches
Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, also can occur but are more common in children than adults

She had every single symptom, yet no flu test? My dh and I had all but the stomach portion.

35. I think when a person presents with those symptoms they treat it "empirically"
meaning they assume it is the flu and just treat it, since there do not appear to be issues with flu being resistant to antivirals. But the window for which the antivirals actually work is really small.

Since my daughter has asthma, they did not do the swab, but did prescribe the Tamiflu. And because of her asthma, she developed the pneumonia because her resistance was down from the influenza.

36. They said we had a virus because my dd had a runny nose?
I've been scouring the net, and I disagree with that assertion LOL. Sorry about your daughter, have you heard about zinc? http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/05/040521072802.htm

Especially when she goes back to school.

We ended up in the ER of the local children's hospital. Her condition had deteriorated quite rapidly on Saturday night.
