1. Many years ago, I jumped at Homestead, Florida.
I stopped while I still had unbroken bones.

2. I've heard Homestead is beautiful to jump at.
Why did you quit? Was there a specific incident? What happened? How long were you jumping?

3. I quit because I really wasn't any good at it.
I would get the risers wrapped around my neck. I would land and the wind would drag me and the chute a few yards and I would end up with scrapes and bruises. The final straw was when I got lost in the air and couldn't find the drop zone. I just missed a stand of pine trees by a few yards. I landed in what looked like a field from the air, but it was reeds way over my head. I walked quite a way dragging the chute until I found the drop van or rather they found me. After that, I decided that was my last jump.

4. Wow.
Glad you got out of it relatively unscathed.

5. I'd like to be...
does that count?

There are a few of us that toss the idea around this time of year every year that we'd like to get a group together during the summer.

6. I was in that camp for a very long time myself.
What always happened is that several people chickened out at the last minute and the group outing got canceled.

If you want to do it, go ahead and get some friends interested but when they decide to not go at the last minute don't let it deter you from going and jumping.

The people I've met over the last year and a half of jumping have been some of the coolest, most sincere people I've ever met. I now have many friends that I would not have otherwise if I had waited for everyone else to grow a set and take that first jump.

Also, if you take the initiative (and get hooked) you'll want to jump again and again. You'll probably want to learn how to jump by yourself instead of with a tandem instructor. Your friends will see how much fun you're having (and how much happier you are because you now know what it's like to fly like a bird) that they'll in all likelihood want to come out and experience what you're doing.

If you ever find yourself in Southern California, shoot me a private message and at the very least I'll take you to a drop zone for you to watch everyone else jump.
