In his defense, the kid is from New Jersey. But still.

4. no, no!
Not that "he's from NJ so he says dumb things", but rather he's a special ed kid from NJ, and associates "New ______" with place names. :D

*sigh*

:banghead:

Dunno how you do it, uly. Teaching art to second graders is fun... but history? I'd be driven to drink. Or throwing things at students. Either one isn't good, though, really.

5. actually, part of me wonders if he doesn't know better.
He's autistic and quite bright, so it's entirely possible that he was making a play on words in his own way and I just didn't catch it.

if he's bright, then that sounds more likely. :)

8. it can be hard to tell sometimes.
I'm trying to give them a sense of the scale of time - which they completely lack and will happily guess that WWI happened a thousand years ago - and so, talking about the Great Depression on Friday, I mentioned that my dad had been born in 1929. Another of my kids raised his hand and said, "Mr. Uly, were you born then too?"

:boggle:

7. LOL. Wow. Does that bring me back.
Talking about the Russian Revolution with a class many, many moons ago, one of them asked why John Lennon was kept in a glass coffin.

24. not bad
the insane folks are still in charge of the asylum, but I'm used to that. We got to see all 8 candidates at the Jim Clyburn fish fry last February, and then saw the three contenders at the MLK day march on the state house. We both voted for Edwards, but are now on the Obama bandwagon. I'll let you know if I'm heading over to Hot-lanta anytime.

17. The right response: "New Deal is same as the Old Deal. Actually study & you won't repeat this class"
Sometimes I pass just cause I don't wanna ever see 'em again.

22. well, this is fifth grade.
I think he was just zoned out when we were actually discussing it in class. He tends to perseverate on objects - his housekey, his pencil box - when he's stressed in class (all the time) and not much gets through until I bring him back.

won't kill people in a rage.

My hat is off to you. I will bow before you on Saturday and kiss the ring!
