1. And Andre 3000 closed it.
How fitting.

2. Prince is one of the greatest songwriters and performers
ever.

Of course, I have been a fan since the "Soft and Wet" days when he was playing and singing all the sounds on his albums.

His songwriting is unquestionably great, but, in performance, he sings powerfully, plays guitar like Hendrix, keyboards better than Elton John, drums better than Buddy Miles, and dances better than Michael Jackson.

He's eccentric as all great artists are, but, to me, he's the best thing going.

7. No way does he play drums better than Buddy Miles.
I'll give you the rest, though.

5. Yeah, double bill with The Church in '88
He finished "Fun Time", left the stage and came back a minute later and closed with a full-length, note-by-note cover.

A friend of an old girlfriend bootlegged the show, but didn't record Purple Rain. I was aghast.

6. The song, album or movie?
I'm not sure which one Tarantino meant, but the movie would be the weakest of the three, even though it's got campy appeal. The special DVD is about to be released which is why all the hubub. But yes, the song and the album are indeed great. It's amazing that it was 20 years ago. I hooked school to stand in line for tickets for that tour. While we were in line, it went through 2 cycles of "sold-out > added a show" and we still didn't get tick's.

I hope the guy leaves Larry Graham and the Jehovah's Witness stuff behind soon. I liked his nebulous and inclusive spirituality phase much better.
