This morning on NPR’s Morning Edition, there was a feature near the top of the hour about John Kerry’s days as a bass player. Apparently, he belonged to a rock bank about 40 years ago and even cut a record which sold 500 copies. The interview with the music critic’historian was VERY positive, and the band sounded great! (an excerpt was provided):
Before Kerry Ran, He Jammed
Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination. But in 1961, he was a student at Saint Paul's prep school in New Hampshire, where he played bass guitar for a band called the Electras. A copy of the band's album sold on eBay this week for more than $2,500. Hear NPR's Bob Edwards.http://www.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.php?prgDate=12-Feb-2004&prgId=3Did anyone else hear this as well?
Incidentally, the person interviewed by NPR reported he had bought a copy several years ago and praised the group as having a “classic” rock (‘n roll) sound. He also mentioned he paid something like 25 cents for it at a used record shop (NPR reported that a copy sold recently on eBay for $2,500).
