What happens if you cut off one earphone?

I have a set of earphones plugged into the computer (mostly for youtube) but I can't have both so---can I cut off one? Will it spark? Will it beckon Satan?

I used to listen to so many audiobooks on walkmans & mp3 players that I have either worn out the earphone jack or one of the earphone wires so that one side stops working. I just cut that one off and it worked fine. As far a beckoning Satan, I never considered that. I have been having impure thoughts lately :shrug:
