What's the coolest piece of glassware you own?
I've got a tie.

The first is this set of leaded-crystal snifters I bought outside of Prague in 1992 for a song, and managed to carry around with me safely. Rainbows!

The second is a set of flutes my folks gave me... they're from the opening of the Space Needle in Seattle, and apparently to get them you had to order this horrible drink called a "Cloudbuster", which was basically champagne and vodka. The cool part is in the bottom of these things is a hidden flashlight powered by a single AA battery -- when you twist the base, the light turns on and illuminates all the bubbles in the drink! :)

3. I have some of those glass stoppered reagent bottles...
...that you see in all the old laboratory pictures. I have them in clear glass, amber, and that red glass they used for the really nasty acids. Picked them up at a flea market for cheap. I think they lend a nice air of "mad scientist" to my work space at home.

7. We have a few interesting pieces....
One piece in particular comes to mind. A cobalt blue and yellow hand-blown modern vase that I gave Mrs. XNASA for Christmas is our latest addition.

Hand-blown in Poland. It's stands about 18 inches high.

We have some other things. Irish crystal, etc. that are nice. But I like the colorful and unique stuff. Just have to keep it away from the cats.

9. A set of serving plates in different geometric shapes...
...each plate has concentric white lines in the shape of the plate for decoration. They were sent to me by an eBay seller who had to pull a winning auction because they couldn't ship it (too large). She felt bad, and sent me the plates as an apology.

The shapes are: large rectangle, small square, triangle, large oval and small circle (from memory). They're very cool!

11. I have some Marshall Pottery
Beautiful stuff in a natural tannish color with blue stripes. I love Marshall Pottery. It's pretty and functional at the same time. And you can go to Marshall, TX and watch them make it.

My other big fave is a little box my ex bought me years ago that is made in a bright blue and yellow flower pattern like the ceramic tiles you can only seem to get in Mexico.

12. You mean I have to choose?
That can be very difficult. I have some crystal vases and a very nice little turquoise bud vase of frosted glass that I'm quite fond of. Also, a fat-bellied water pitcher of leaded glass and a sandwich glass egg plate and, oh, that cute little oil-and-vinegar set . Are we counting china, too? In that case I've got service for 12 in four different patterns. Did I mention I have an auction addiction?

13. My entire collection of Fire-King...
Turquoise Blue dish-ware, from the 1950s. It's up to about a hundred pieces now, and I love it all. Use it for special occasions. 15 years ago, you could pick the stuff up at flea-markets for a buck or two. Now, some pieces go for hundreds of dollars.

19. It's a punchbowl! It's a cakeplate! It's both!
A cool wedding gift from a cousin we don't even really like, but it's a nifty piece.

It has a knob on the lid for the covered cake plate. When you turn it upside down, the knob fits into a cavity on the stand, and it becomes a punchbowl.

I use it a lot for parties, cuz cake plates on feet always look classy.

That, and my collection of coffee mugs from all the places I travel. I think I'm up to around 25 now. Still need mugs from Iowa and Kansas, since I have been through both of them now.

21. I have a bunch of antique glass bottles-
for medicines and booze, from the 1800's...

I was working on a high-rise construction site near Belmont Ave. in Chicago, on a spot that had been a beach in the previous century. While we were digging the foundation, and putting in caissons, we kept digging up old bottles out of the sand...the sand layer from the old beach was about 10 feet thick, but was under about 6-8 feet of dirt and soil.

26. B&O Railroad china
It was used in the dining cars on the trains through the 1920s at least. I have a couple of pieces that were manufactured by the Lamberton company...quite old and floe blue in color (deeper in color than the picture below). My favorites are coffee/tea cups with saucers and lids to keep the beverage hot.

29. I'm still stuck on the idea of combining champagne and vodka
:puke: !!!

As to glassware - I suffer from a Glassware Gap! I must escalate my glassware purchases to achieve glassware parity!

(Generally, people with three Maine Coons don't have any cool glassware left. They don't mean to break things, but they're big and their tails are about three feet long and fluffy.)
